RAW Fuji Files Darken on Import

Have you turned on HDR on your camera? I know on Sony this will affect the RAW file as it darkens it a touch to stop highlights from getting blown out. If this is the case then you can try turning on Auto Adjust to see if it corrects the issue.

I think LightRoom auto-corrects for HDR, per a similar issue that someone had on another forum.

Thank you for your insight.  No HDR.  But we notice that the problem could be intermittent.  We are still tracking this.

This is still an issue that persists.    I decided to import images previously imported into LR but not yet into Cap One (from before I switched over.) These import fine,  Something must have changed just I'm not sure what.

    Advice?

Found a solution from here: dpreview.com/forums/thread/4494305

Try to turn "D RANGE PRIORITY" to OFF in your camera setting.

Was this ever solved? I'm having this problem now with my Nikon Mirrorless bodies, Z6 and Z6ii.

Assuming this is not your first import for the Z6/Z6ii bodies, what has changed between the problematic and previous succesful imports?

Have checked the Autoadjust checkbox, and how is Autoadjust configured? (e.g. Exposure + Levels...)

Correct. I've been using the Z bodies for years now and have NEVER run into this problem. I also haven't changed any settings in CO or the cameras themselves. The autoadjust checkboxes are blank.

I import images to Photomechanic first (like always), cull, caption, and then drag over to CO (like always). My last 5 imports are roughly 0.5 underexposed on EVERY image. Again, I can't figure out why this would happen all of a sudden when I haven't changed anything.

I assume you did not update C1 since the last 6 imports or so.

So you don't want them to be autoadjusted on import?

How do you measure "0.5 underexposed" and what do you do after the import to correct the exposure? What did you do after import let's say 10 imports ago?

I upgraded to 23 a few weeks ago. Didn't have any issues on the laptop or the desktop...until this started earlier this week.

I want ZERO exposure adjustments to be made. They should be correct straight out of camera. When the images are importing and creating previews, I can see the previews drop exposure and get darker as if an adjustment is being made. I'm measuring 0.5 underexposed by the amount I need to correct EVERY IMAGE to get back to correct exposure.

Let me know if you're able to view this VIDEO on my dropbox. Change the video quality in the settings (gear icon) if it seems blurry or pixelated.

Before this started happening, I would import images and ZERO exposure changes would happen. Nothing that was noticeable. I have some default adjustments (always have) such as -10 contrast and -15 highlights, but again, I've had those defaults since I can remember when.

Yes I could see the vid.

The thumbnails you see before the exposure drops are the embedded jpgs in the NEF raw file. That means that the settings in C1, namely the prostandard profile and curve which you use and all other tool defaults will render a preview (and thumbnail) which differs from the embedded jpg. That is totally normal (I'm sure you know), but what's not normal is that the exposure drop is something new to you which you didn't observe previously. Thats' my understanding of the situation.

Assuming it's not an observation issue there must be something which has changed since earlier this week.

Are you sure all your defaults for the camera are the same as last week, incl. base characteristics?

Furthermore, are you sure your settings in the camera (which influence the embedded jpg rendering) are the same?

Maybe to check the latter, can you import a couple of images from last week and from last month to see if the exposure drop occurs? If not then it could be a hint that your camera settings have changed.

Just uploaded some images from an event I photographed in December. Sure enough, it darkened those as well. It's gotta be C1.

    hhmm.

Do you still have an older session and can compare some of the settings of the images you've developed, including icc profile and curve? I can't image that C1 is doing something diferrent beginning of this week if there had not been any update of C1, or any other changed factor.

Another weird thing I noticed...when I drag images over and it allows me to "select all images for import" (or whatever the wording is), all the images look properly exposed. As soon as I press "okay" (or whatever the wording is), all the images start loading into the workspace and then darken. Why would they look fine in the import selection?

You mean the import window? Just shows the embedded jpg.

I've had active-d lighting on since day one of using the camera. However, I'm going to turn that off and mess around today to see if that makes a difference. I just can't imaging "normal" d-lighting is making that much of a difference between the JPEG and RAW. We'll see.

The raw development in C1 will never match precisely the in-camera raw development (embedded jpg), I suggest to check all picture control settings in your camera, because this is what the Z camera histogram (and EVF) will show, and you don't want to underexpose. I would go for a rather flat / neutral profile (unless you actually also use the jpg files from the camera).

    And did it?

    I'm going to bet "yes..."
