Memory leak in C22

Small excerpt? lmao... a 100K images is huge already! Especially for a C1 catalog. I wouldn't go over 10K per catalog max in C1. You will find countless posts of users having issues with catalogs that have 10's of thousands of images. C1 was not built with a catalog in mind and it shows time and again. Use multiple smaller catalogs instead that cover separate categories or one for each year or something similar. I personally would however recommend using sessions which is what C1 was made for. Every shoot goes into its own session. Much more manageable that way and it keeps C1 fast.

Ever since I switched from catalogs to sessions, I never had to deal with library issues again. It also keeps risk of corruption to a minimum. If something were to happen to a large catalog, that's much harder to salvage than a small session.

Are you serious? Co used 90gb of Programm Memory and brought the System to a halt. That has nothing to do with the catalog file (it’s a referenced catalog btw.). You can watch CO using the activity monitor taking all memory. I use LR catalog with more than 600k Images without any problems.

    Hi

As you are using Lightroom you will have noticed how much resource Creative Cloud desktop app is using even when you are not running an Adobe application.  I suspect you have a battle going on here between CO and CC for resources. That said there does seem to be excessive use of memory.

That it has nothing to do with the catalog file is just an assumption, right? Or did you actually try to import only 10K images and not a 100K?

Whether LR supports 600K images or 600M images is irrelevant. The C1 catalog is not comparable with LR, which is what I was getting at in my first post. We all wish it were but it simply isn't. There have been numerous complaints in this forum and support requests submitted over the years, yet this fundamental feature (or lack thereof) has still not been addressed and I wouldn't hold my breath that this will change anytime soon.

Again, my advice would be; familiarize yourself with the concept of Sessions. Use that and forget the catalog. LR already created a folder structure that you can easily use as the basis for Sessions. Create a Session inside each of the folders and import (referenced) the relevant files into each Session. If you ever decide to leave C1 again, you can just trash the Session related files and the rest of your folder structure remains intact.

    Drugstore,

You may want to check the settings you have for the metadata load.

From your description you seem to be refreshing the metadata every time you open Capture One. That's a large overhead with a lot of images. Are you sure it is necessary?

One hour on startup for metata loading? Do you have full sync enabled?

    About XMP metadata sync:

NOTE: Using Full Sync when working with a large collection of new images can hinder performance. In this situation, it's recommended to use the "manual" sync commands such as Image -> Sync Metadata and Image -> Load Metadata in the main menu. This will achieve the same end result but without the background sync process slowing the processes down.

No solution to your problem, but another fellow sufferer:

Memory leak when importing files from SD card. Hence, I suppose that the issue described by you and the issue I have (import from SD card) might be linked to each other.

--> Contacted capture one support already with this issue in version 21. No solution so far...
