Show in explorer greyed out

I made a catalog from a selection to divide up my images main catalog was hitting 20,000 +. My problem is this new catalog all the images have the locate and show functions greyed out. Is there anyway around this I need to find images occasionally and the loss of this function defeats my objectives in splitting up my catalogs. I know there in the originals folder but that ended up being a maze of subfolders, one having 856 sub-folders

  Pretty sure "Show in Explorer" only works for "Add to catalog" imports where the images stay in their original location.
  "Copy to catalog" imports copy the images to the catalog Originals folder and "Show in Explorer" is not available by design.
  Might be C1's way of saying "leave the Originals folder alone".

  Seems to be the case, but I think it ruins the functionality. It makes finding that raw file a nuisance and I frankly can't think of any good reason that we should lose functionality in splitting up a catalog, but it is what it is.
