Locating referenced files

Hi there,

Whenever I need to re-organise the folder structure on my external drives (where I store all my RAW files) or even to simply rename a folder to make sure the naming convention makes sense, it takes a VERY long time to reconnect the catalgue in CO to the files on the HD/SSD by using the 'locate' function.

I know it's possible either a) to use CO to 'move' the files to the new location, or b) to make the changes in Windows Explorer and then use the locate function. I prefer the latter (especially when the catalogue is big) as when organsising my files and folder structure it's not usually only concerning CO, and to be frank is easier in Explorer.

So the problem is ONLY that it takes a very long time - the locate function always seems to work fine in the end. As an example I just changed the location of RAW files for a catalogue containing 27,000 files. Originally they were referenced from an older archive HD, but I copied the files to a new fast SSD to make editing much more efficient - and then in CO I used the locate function to point at the new top level folder in the SSD. NOTE: The folder structure and their contents did not change! Only the location changed (fundamentally just a new location on a new drive). CO has just finished processing this taking about 1.5 hours!!

Surely this is not right? Does anyone else experience this problem? Is there a fix? I would appreciate any feedback on this, so thanks in advance!

NB: I'm working with CO 21 Pro v.14.3.1.14 (41280e6) on a Windows PC, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, with 16Gb RAM.

It's 27k images which undergo a change (the location path) and maybe other things are checked by C1 when "locating" (e.g. checking for comask files, cache items (previews/browser thumbnails on disk) so I'm not surprised it takes quite a while.
