Deleting a sub-keyword deletes ALL keywords

[This is the 2nd time I'm entering these details. For some reason this website decided to delete everything I had already written.]

I have an extensive hierarchical list of keywords that I am applying to about 900 images I took in Portugal. I have attached them to about 500 so far.

One of the keywords was at the wrong level, so I selected it--and only it--and deleted it in preparation to add it again at the proper level. ALL KEYWORDS WERE DELETED.

Fortunately, they appear to still be attached to the 500 images I have categorized. But now I need to regenerate that list of keywords. Is there a way to do this from the keywords I have already attached to those 500 images?

After working on this for about 8 hours, I'm pretty upset that they were all deleted from the keyword list I had been constructing. And please do not chide me for not exporting the list after I made every addition.

I'm having a very similar problem where other keywords, though not all, are deleted when selecting only one to delete. It's a relief to find another person with the same problem.
I submitted a Support Request many months ago which a tech has been working on without success. It seems they are unable to replicate it at their end. Part of the problem is that it's intermittent, when I delete a keyword it doesn't always delete others.
