It doesn’t support them? Wow I’m shocked.

Take my upvote. I don't often use my iPhone for serious photos, but I probably would a whole lot more if I could include the ProRAW images in my normal workflow.

ProRAW support is on the roadmap. I can't be specific at this point in time, but it is something we're looking into over the next few releases.

Having just bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max and compared the photos with my Sony A7II I will be using the iPhone much more often for those "had it in my pocket" photographs and RAW support is a must for me.  I also need to decide whether to buy the current (and last purchase version) of Capture One but as it doesn't include ProRaw support it seems like I will only get it with subscription.  I like CaptureOne but I don't like subscriptions. If I must go that way, I may as well move to Adobe instead and get ProRaw support now.

Stewart Weston-Lewis Now would be the ideal time to purchase Capture One, especially when it comes to ProRAW support. It's coming :) and you will receive future updates if you purchase now anyway.

So you say ProRaw support will be implemented until September OR anynone who is buying or upgrading version 23 before Feb 14 will get a C1 version which supports Apple ProRaw for no additional cost?

BeO We won't be implementing it in February and then taking it away by September, if that's what you mean. We've never done anything like that and never will.

If Stewart Weston-Lewis decides to buy a Capture One perpetual license, he will receive ProRAW support when it is ready.

No Jack, that would be weird, how come you think I could have meant this.

You cannot tell us on when the ProRAW support will be released:

ProRAW support is on the roadmap. I can't be specific at this point in time, but it is something we're looking into over the next few releases.

Next few releases does mean what? Before September 2023?

You told us that if somebody purchses a perpetual license today (which is "ideal") that he will receive ProRAW support in the future.

What if ProRAW support will be released in October, for which a license holder of v23 will not get an update for, at least not for free? (Then "today" is not "ideal", is it?)

You promise he will get ProRAW support (for free, that's what I read when you say now would be the "ideal" time to buy) which can only be achieved if a release prior October will support ProRAW, or, if you will be granting an October or later version license for free to any v23 licence holder who buys now.

Now would be the ideal time to purchase Capture One, especially when it comes to ProRAW support. It's coming :) and you will receive future updates if you purchase now anyway.

I mentioned Feb 14 because if I would purchase v23 later than that then I will be EXLUDED from future releases which have any new feature, unless I pay the upgrade price. So, no ProRAW support for end of Feb purchasers.

I suggest you make yourself familiar with the new and unfair license policy for perpetual license holders and have this in mind when reading forum posts.

If Stewart Weston-Lewis decides to buy a Capture One perpetual license, he will receive ProRAW support when it is ready.

So you give Stewart a bonus, and only him, in a public forum? Wow.

We others would like to see a C1 Roadmap, to make informed decisions, especially after the latest (but not greatest) licence policy change for perpetual license holders. See, I asked for it, will I receive one when it is ready?

Thanks BeO, exactly my point just explained much more clearly.

As I saw it, after September 23 unless I have a subscription, I will get no further upgrades even with a v23 perpetual license purchased before 18 Feb.  ProRAW support is not on a published roadmap for issue before that date therefore if I want that functionality there is no point buying a v23 perpetual upgrade.  the only way to guarantee getting ProRAW support is to buy a subscription.

If I have to go down the subscription route, which I don't want to do, I may as well do it with a product that has the support now.

The new CaptureOne licensing model may be OK for professionals but for armature snappers like me that just like to produce the best quality photographs we can its driving us away.

It would be good for all of us if you could confirm our understanding that perpetual licenses will receive no feature upgrades after September 23 and that the path to features released after that date is through a subscription license.

Oh and if you are promising me ProRaw support whenever it's released as long as I upgrade one of my existing licenses before 18 Feb then thank you very much, I might just take you up on that.

Doesn't change my view on subscription only licensing models though.

    Thanks Stewart.

The new CaptureOne licensing model may be OK for professionals but for armature snappers like me that just like to produce the best quality photographs we can its driving us away.

Exactly. Some people just like subscriptions. For many professionals, as long as they are actively working, it might even make sense or at least no big difference. Retired professionals or those who will be retiring soon don't seem to like it (here in the forum), for many amateur snappers like us it doesn't make sense either.

Looking back many years of new releases the percentage of features I really needed or wanted is rather small. Given the increased prices during the past years and worsened licence policy I will only make very well informed decisions, upgrades are not a no-brainer anymore as it is for Affinity Photo for example.

And without a roadmap for the future I can only make informed decisions in retrospective, after a release.

I will not upgrade to v23 because I don't need its current features, and I am put off by the many threads of issues with v23. New issues are to be expected with every release of C1 (from experience), even with minor releases, and even with a roadmap there is still uncertainty as a roadmap doesn't tell us anything about actual software quality.

I generally don't subscribe to anything which is not a consumable (like video on demand, streaming or alike) because when I stop paying the subscription fees I will be locked out of all MY work which I've done. The recently announced rebate on a perpetual license (down to zero bucks after 5 years of subscription) is lipstick on the pig called subscription concept. And, who knows when the next policy change will be imposed by C1.

BeO Who is giving anybody "bonuses"? Something has been greatly misunderstood here. We're implementing ProRAW support soon and I'm simply advising Stewart Weston-Lewis the best thing to do in an honest way, whilst still choosing the license they want to use. (the best thing is to purchase an upgrade now)

The easy answer would have been "take out a subscription" because then you never have to "worry" about what version you're on, as you always have access to the latest one.

I can't provide roadmaps, I can't reveal the plans of the software for the next 5 years as some people are wanting, but I can help you guys make the right choice based on the information available.

So to clarify: no special deals or tricks here.

Perhaps I shouldn't have said "in the next few releases" but again, I'm trying to be as honest and open as possible.

Ok, no individual bonus here, understood now.

You say the best thing is to purchase an upgrade now, if one wants ProRaw support. It will come "in the next few releases" with no additonal costs to those who upgrade now (therefore its the best thing), the only conclusion can be that it will come with a free v23 upgrade, and free upgrades will end somewhen in September.
That means the ProRaw support will come in one of the next releases before or in September 2023 Does this match with the information available to you at the time being?

Just to be clear, I am not asking for a 5 years roadmap, haven't noticed others do, but 1 year roadmap and maybe a long-term vision would be something which would satisfy many if not all  existing and potential new customers.

OK Jack, upgrade purchased, I look forward to the update to v23 that includes iPhone ProRAW support.
