Exposure Warning

Why does the Exposure warning show lots of red(and therefore loss of detail in the highlights) after clicking auto in levels. The image appears to have good contrast and tones when auto is used. So what is the point of the Exposure warning?

  You can configure both the auto levels and the exposure warning in the preference dialog to your liking. 

  And zoom in to the pixel level to see the RGB values to understand why it is red (how many channels are clipped) to understand the effect of it (all same values= grey= no detail, one or two channels clipped= detail possbile but color shift likely, etc.)
