Removing metadata side car files

Normally, I do not use side car files. Rather, I just keep the metadata in my catalog. Recently, in response to a support request, I turned on auto sync and about 2000 xmp files were created for various image files on my hard drive that I do not need and are now just clutter. 

Is there a way to remove them from within Capture One? Turning off auto sync does not do this after they have been created. Can I just delete them from the hard drive or will this corrupt my catalog?

  Support staff confirm XMP files can be removed from the hard drive manually if not needed. There is no mechanism to remove them within Capture One. Removing them does not affect the database except that metadata in the deleted XMP files obviously will no longer be available to Capture One.
