Yep--ran into that with star and color ratings. Removing the C1 preferences from ~/Library/Application Support/Phase One and rebuilding the .cosessiondb for the affected session did the trick for me.

Also, what filesystem is that external drive using? (Check in Disk Utility to find out). Sounds like there might be a file ownership issue going on, possibly as well or alongside other issues.
