You need to delete the hidden flag file(s) created when the catalogue is opened. They sometimes don't get cleaned up properly. This has been with us since the IVMP & EM days.See

Don't know whether this helps, but you can extract metadata to XMP sidecar files, then if you put them in the same folder as the derivatives, the metadata will be imported with the derivative image...
