Capture One Express is free. I believe there are versions for Sony, Fuji and Nikon.

You may have pushed a wrong button. There is trial and capture one express buttons on the same page. I use capture one express for Sony and downloaded it not that long ago with no problems.

I also dislike Adobe and use Capture One Express for Sony and Affinity Photo (a bit like Photoshop but no subscription), with a few plugins. Suspect you could do the same with C1 Express for fuji?

In Explorer right click on the file, choose open with, go down to choose another app and find the app you want to use. Then when you reopen capture one it should be there.

My understanding is that the Sony creative looks are applied to the jpegs. Capture One uses the RAW image. Sony's Imaging Edge seems to detect it, so it may be in the metadata somewhere.
