Do XMP files save editing information
Follow-up question to yesterday's inquiry, as I can't find anything in the manual/online/forum: do the XMP files that CO can generate save information about all the editing that was done to an image? XMPs usually hold meta data, but as far as I could tell, LR also keeps editing information in there (I'm not an LR user) - does CO do the same?

I am not 100% sure either. My impression is that C1 does not but you might have to ask support for a more firm answer.

OK. The OP is talking about having the edits saved in a side car next to the RAW files that can then be read by another instance of C1 without the need for the session or catalogue any more.
C1, Paint.Net, Paintshop Pro, MS Paint and many many others can bake their edits into an output file same as LR.0 -

One way of doing that would be to package images as EIP files.

This is a line from a COP12 generated xmp-file:
xmlns:crs="http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-settings/1.0/"
...the meaning of which is that the body of the file contains Adobe Camera Settings. Looking at the corresponding image in Lightroom I can see that those are the actual adjustments made on the image in LR. Very ecumenical behaviour by COP12, but from where it is reading this information I don't know.
But the xmp-file does not contain info on COP12 settings. Thus the answer to your question is no, if my reading of things is correct.

An XMP file, in this context, is a shared file with some common values.
The programs updating the file will include whatever they wish to include, presumably within some sort of 'standard' list of data values by their names.
It does not imply that all data will be used by all updates making use of the sharing medium.

Capture One does not write adjustments to XMP except for Metadata "adjustments". The image-based adjustments are stored: - in .cos sidecar files (in a session)
in an EIP (it's actually a .cos inside of the EIP, and similarly only applies to the session workflow)
in the .cocatalogdb (in a catalog).0 -
But what should I do if I want to re-import the images with adjustments (but without catalogue import)? Can I save some sidecar files, let them be in C1 own format?
