No acceleration? ImageCore folder empty!
Hello!
I first tried Capture One 20 via a Free Fuji version on my PC. I did have probem with the image beeing blurred for about a second when zooming in and out of it. Then I heard that you should set a preview size to make this snappier. I did that but nothing special changed. The preview might got a bit sharper, not sure..
I then read some forums telling me to delete the files in the ImageCore folder, restart the application and let this file be recreated. I did so, and restarted the app. The files did not get recreated at all. Hmm.
Yesterday I got the Pro version (Fujifilm) and had hopings for this to finally work, that the hardware acceleration (opencl) should do the job. That was not the case. I looked in that ImageCore folder again, and it is still....empty!
I really do need some pro help here, please. Not sure how to get this to work properly, like it should. And I have absolutely no idea why the files not recreated as the should (if they should?)
EDIT: I now also tried to delete the whol "ImageCore" folder, and restarted Capture One. I then checked the subfolder and the folder had been recreated - but still with no files.
Thank you! =)

As far as I know deleting the files and restarting C1 *is* the way to regenerate the files. I hope someone else has a better idea or you might have to open a support request and wait for however long that might take. 0 -
Your post got me wondering so I did a search of the support database. I found this: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002404937-Troubleshooting-OpenCL-in-case-of-viewing-processing-exporting-problems 0 -

That was a very good link, I was able to check if OpenCL was used, and it was:
"How to define whether OpenCL is initialized?
Ensure that OpenCL is set to 'Auto' in your preferences.
Reset adjustments on an image.
Enable the focus mask by going to View > Show Focus Mask in the Capture One main menu.
Slide the exposure slider gradually.
If the focus mask is disabled while you are increasing your exposure, OpenCL is being utilized. If it remains visible while making these adjustments, then OpenCL has failed to initialize or is not in use."
But, there is absolutely no differnce if I turn off the acceleration in the settings. Also, the files that (I assume) should be regenerated in that folder is not regenerated. I have asked the support on Facebook for advice too.
Do you have files in your ImageCore folder (especiall interesting if you did install Version 20 and not having upgraded from 12. Need to know it the info about the ImageCore folder only applied to earlier versions of Capture One, but on the other hand - the folder is regenerated - but empty.
Still a bit weird this...0 -
One more update on trying to fix this...
The folder, "OpenCL" I should find in the registry is missing. Please see screenshot.
There was one other method to try, but I have not tried that yet.
I would need to know if there should be such a folder, and why the files in the ImageCore not is regenerated.
Any suggestions? =P I will also try to delete that folder named as an alternative option.

I have now also tried the second option (or third if you will, totally)
Delete the version-specific preferences folder:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Phase_One\CaptureOne.exe_StrongName_y3yh4brhpfi14u41fltdrpfruizxirsn
The last part \(...)_Strongname_(...) might be different for you.
Still no files in the ImageCore folder after restarting computer and Capture One. All ths last thing did was to reset the user inteface settings (need to change that again).
Not sure at all what to do... ☹️0 -
Which V20 release are you using?
If you open the Preferences and look just under the part in the General Tab were the settings for Hardware Acceleration are set, you should see some text. A message that indicates whether the OpenCL functionality is working or not. What does it report?0 -
Related to my previous post - this from another David532.

Oh, my post dissapeared.
Latest version of V20. Yes, it says OpenGL is used, but since there is no difference with it on or off, it makes me wonder. Also the files in the imagecore folder is not regenerated, and if i delete the whole folder, the folder is regenerated but not files are made. I have tried the things to try in that document (above), it did not help and one of the folders that should be found in the registry was not there. Tried alternative way, but no differenc (exept for the gui to be resetted).
Thank you for trying to help me out! =)0 -

That explains it all (or partly), I guess. I will have a deeper look into this tomorrow. A bit weird that the imagecore folder still is renewed on the old place when deleted. Some old code...?
Thank you! =)0 -

For what it is worth the "slider test" mentioned in the official FAQ document (and that test has been the recommended approach for many versions now) has NEVER worked for me.
My NVidia card has a utility that indicates whether an application is using the NVidia driver and as I am still on Win 7 I can run a widget that gives me some indications of activity as it happens.
So far with V20 the text in the Preferences seems to be correct.
For most system configurations the performance difference, in the absence of any very obvious visual indicator - like the slider test (if it worked) or a monitoring and reporting process as I have - it would be difficult to see a measurable difference unless you looked at something like a 100 image batch output process and ran the same output recipe twice, once with acceleration off and once with it on.
I think there are still a few situations where the type of file (or camera) or the type of adjustments created might require C1 to skip the use of the gpu anyway because it is more effective to use the CPU in certain situations.
That constraint may have been changing over the past few versions but although improved they may not have been entirely able to do so. Yet.0 -
Interesting! Well, I have now made a complete uninstall of the software, not just via the uninstaller but I followed all steps on the supportpage of how to do this - completely. I reinstalled the software and for some minutes CaptureOne was working on something in the background (settings up this core thing?). Lets pray that this is working now. I also did an DDU uninstall of graphic drivers and reinstalled them. Thing *should* work now, right? =) I'll get back to you when I know a bit more!
Thank you so much everyone for trying to help me with this! Your the best!0 -

If it was working for "some minutes" on just the OpenCL assessment then that might not be a good sign.
Did the Activities tool appear when you started Capture One?
If so, what did it show?

No, actually that tool never showed up (I guess you are refferring to the bar showing acceleration optimzation, sort of). But the animated asterisk at the top was moving for cpl of minutes. My guess is that it is the same? I have not been firing up Capture One 20 after I installed it. Ill get back when I know more. 0 -
OK. I usually take that as a good sign.
I think the activity tool, in a start up situation, only appears if the activities it might report are taking longer than expected.
You may need to set the Preferences > General (tab) to "Automatically Show Window" if it is not already set.

Not sure if this will help or is relevant but just throwing it into the pot.
I have an Nvida Geforce GT 430 and because I don't play games I uninstalled all the 3d drivers that got installed by default hoping to save space and processing power. I then installed Capture One and couldn't get acceleration to work. Re installing the Nvidia drivers and leaving the 3d drivers allowed acceleration to work. YMMV.0 -

You have to click on the animated asterisk for the activity window to show up when acceleration optimisation is taking place.
