Lost liveview and usb3 support after Yosemite update...

    Do I understand you properly that the IQ250/DF+ is initially recognised at the beginning of the shoot? Can you trigger the camera from CO8?

    What Mac do you use?

    What I could imagine is that OS X 10.10.1 further tunes the power down on the USB3 port, but I do not have specifics about that. Any chance of using a powered USB hub to rule out power issues?

    Yes, thats right, CO recognizes the camera and it seems to start receiving the files also, but the yellow progressbar only goes 1/5 of the way and then disappears. After a little longer the back says "connection lost" and no frames have been saved on the mac. Heres some of the settings on the back:

    storage:usb
    Battery charging: off

    My mac is a late 2013 retina macbook pro, 2,6 intel core i7, ssd drive and 16gb memory.

    I dont have a usb repeater, but I've tried different batteries with full and lower charges, but the problem seems to persist.

    I also dont have liveview on firewire, but maybe there isn't support for that yet?

    The more recent your Mac, and the more recent the OS X version, the fewer power for external devices (USB, Firewire), seems to be Apple's paradigm. Not being cynical, but realistic.

    Please, do yourself a big favour and try a powered USB3 hub. Maybe your Phase One dealer can advice or demonstrate.

    Live View with IQ250 over Firewire is not and most probably won't become available due to the limited bandwidth of the Firewire connection. Apart from the fact that you need some interface for your MBPr system, which lacks Firewire natively.

    The thing is that the system has worked flawlessly until recently. I've been very satisfied with the performance of the usb3. I think there was a small update of Yosemite just before newyear and after that it stopped working...

    2 Suggestions.

    Firstly it might be worth checking the power management settings on the Mac if you have not done so already. Small changes there might be the sort of thing that would slip in with an OS update without anyone mentioning what effect they might have. It's a long shot but that and similar "control" areas might be worth checking.

    Secondly if you have not already done so open a Support Case with the Phase team to enlist some official assistance.

    There is no need to speculate what is Apples' "paradigm" regarding their usb ports. Take a look at:



    The upshot being that their usb ports are compliant with the usb specification.

    Which would mean that anyone convinced that the usb ports on his Mac cannot provide power as per specs should send it in for repairs.

    Trying to fix that specific problem by attaching third-party powered gizmos is like fixing a flat tyre on your car by putting a fifth wheel on it.

    OK, so I'm opening a support case (which I should have done immediately, but I was hoping for a quick solution..).

    I've tried everything, including downgrading osx, so it's probably a hardware damage.

    Update!

    I tried one more thing before starting the support ticket: After I downgraded to the base Yosemite version I also reset the SMC on the macbook pro and now the USB works flawlessly! 😊

    Hope Phase One will be able to fix this in a future update of CO.

    Not sure it is for us to fix.
    It sounds as though the issue is/was local to your system as Yosemite and Capture One 8, with all features for the Phase One Camera System, is fully supported.

    Well, I can't get liveview over FW to work, any known issues?
    -"the selected camera does not support liveview." The camera is a df+ with iq250 with latest firmware. It has also been selected as the camera in "properties".

    The usb problem did not start after yosemite, but yosemite update 10.10.1 that was released on November 17.

    Live view is not available on the IQ250 over Firewire. This is a limitation of data throughput of Firewire and therefore not available. Tethered capture through Firewire is possible but not live view. This is listed in the release notes and spec's for the IQ250.

    Yosemite 10.10.1 has no conflicts with tethering the IQ250 over USB. I believe this issue may have been specific to your computer and, as resetting the SMC / PRAM has resolved this, it may have been the proper solution all along. It is hard to say. The issue may have simply been introduced to this system in the update process.

    I don't have a Mac but these things interest me so I ran a quick search and found this.

    OK, I didn't know about the FW. You might be right that the smc reset might have worked in first place.

    Just one more post on this; I just updated to 10.10.1 again and the problem is back, reset smc, twice, problem is still there. Hope someone at PO at least tests this out...

    Currently running 10.10.1 on my machine with an IQ250 connected, no issues for tethered capture of live view.

    As suggested previously, you should open a support case.
