    Mike,

There should be a log file (2 in fact) that records the attempt to initialise the OpenCL option for each of the OpenCL capable GPU processors that C1 discovers in your system. They will very likely provide some clues about what is happening.

Also if you Enable the Activities Window and then close C1 it should be active next time you open C1. At the point ot opening C1 should re-check for OpenCL options and provide some basic information about what it is doing via the Activities window. At least that is how things work on Windows and I assume Macs have something similar if not identical.

The information fomr either of the above suggestion should help to decide the next step.

However it may be useful to know which GPU is installed in your Mac. There are some issues already know with certain models of (mainly) Radeon GPUs.

    Hi,

    thanks for your help!

    >Also if you Enable the Activities Window and then close C1 it should be active next time you open C1. At the point ot opening C1 should re-check for OpenCL options and provide

Nothing was shown at the activity window during startup.

    Hi Mike,

Your GPU is not especially powerful but it is rated as  more powerful than mine and mine does work to at least some extent. I'm not sure of the reason for failure to construct the kernel but the GPU available memory looks a bit tight. I think C1 seeks 2Gb GPU memory.

The thing is that once a fail is recorded for a specific card C1, when checking for availability/changes on opening will ignore a previously failed card.

If you close C1 and go to the folder indicated in the ERROR lines and delete the contents (ICOCL etc.) they will be recreated by C1 when upon fire it up again and you should see the activity window if you closed C1 with the window active. If not just re-check the log file to see if you get the same message.

HOWEVER, I think you have already tried that and nothing changed, right?

The other common issue relates to GPU drivers. Mac users are, as I understand thing, stuck with whatever Apply provide (more or less). Windows users can go searching for alternatives that might work if the current driver does not.

I'm not an Apple user so if the problem appears to be in that area I'll leave it to others to comment. However you may wish to raise the question with the C1 Support Team to see what guidance they can offer related to that specific GPU card. They must, surely, have something useful in their analytics database.

fyi - with the latest version of C1 -> opencl is now working :)

    Mike,

My guess is that either a setting has changed in an internal control file with the fresh install or simply that the fresh update has corrected a corruption or marginal value in the some part of the ICOCL setup evaluation and allowed the system to work.

At one point I had something similar with Windows 7 when the assessment process found the Intel embedded GPU in the i7 processor, got 93% percent of the way through building the kernel for it and then failed. That stopped the entire process, leaving the separate GPU card inactive.

Deleting the ICOCL files ended up with the same result (at the time) but restarting C1 then found the "failed" attempt for the CPU embedded OpenCL attempt and so skipped it and completed the analysis and kernel building for the discrete GPU (Nvidia in my case).

Since that time there seems to have been some further work on the OpenCL assessment process to ensure that it runs at every startup (and some other change points?) to re-assess/recheck for hardware changes/additions rather than relying solely on a previous assessment.  There also seems to be saved assessment for different versions ( and releases?) of C1, presumably to accommodate some aspects of backwards compatibility in the case that someone has a need to revert to an older version of C1 for some aspect of compatibility - for example a retoucher working with multiple versions depending in what clients are using.

Good to know that your problem is resolved.
