Heal/clone mask limitations- lack of 'refine'/'copy from' and more...
ImplementedWhen drawing a mask for healing or cloning, there are limitations relative to making an adjustment mask:
It's not possible to either 'refine' the mask, nor is it possible to copy the mask from another masking layer, nor the other options normally available under the Layers options. This results in crude edges to the healed/cloned area.
Another thing that drives me crazy: in the heal layer, if one doesn't explicitly select the donor area, C1P often selects an area outside of the current crop. It's not possible to adjust this donor area without expanding the crop, moving it, then resizing the crop. Seems like it should be possible to somehow go beyond the current crop to do this adjustment.

The behavior of selecting a donor area outside the current crop is pretty annoying. I definitely would like to see this fixed.

Hi Jay,
Thank you for the comment.
I have forwarded your feedback to the Product Management team.
Actually, there is a couple of similar requests regarding the source area to be always inside the crop when there is any.
Whilst we cannot comment on future releases, hopefully your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.

The source area needs to be anywhere in the image.
Restricting it to within a crop is illogical for many reasons, not the least being that if one prepares an image with some corrections and then creates version of the image with different crops you would have the complexity of trying to decide what to do with the adjustments when the selection point may sometimes be in the crop area and sometimes outside.
Much too complicated and entirely avoidable.

Jay, still waiting for the functionality (refine, feather, copy, etc) of the heal/clone layers to be restored as well, so you aren't the only one. This functionality was present in earlier versions of Capture One, but was quietly removed with the 13.1 update.
I could never get the new heal/clone masks to look right myself-- not very skilled with a stylus-- so I relied on post-brush refinements. For now, I'm stuck on C1 version 13.0 indefinitely.
