New Export: I don´t like it.

This is a user-to-user forum and we don't know whether (or how) Capture One monitors it. Many people, including me, have expressed frustration with the new approach. To send feedback directly to C1, use the "Submit a request" button in the upper-right of this page or file a Support Request.

Maybe if they get enough complaints they'll add the old capabilities back in. There are some nice features in the new approach (not many, but some), and I think they'd make us all happy if they just restored the old Process (now Export) and Batch tools as they used to be and kept the new Export window for those who like it.

When I read a statement like

"Capture one claims to listen to their customers but with this change it is clear that their only goal is to get more out the consumer field and boost their profits.
This is just disappointing and a slap in the face for all the hardworking professionals out there who rely on this tool."

I'd like to suggest, that all the "hardworking professionals" put their wallets out, team up and buy into Capture One, so they can tell the devs what has to be done and in which way.

I wonder how many months CO would survive after their only income is paid by "hardworking (and sometimes low-earning) professionals". Capture One started as a tool for Phase One cameras, right? And very soon the very few "hardworking professionals" with these expensive machines were not able to finance the developers work, so the  Company PhaseOne opened up to other "professional camera" owners. Then Sony and Fujifilm and Nikon popped up to get their own dedicated versions for their customers as their own RAW-conversion software apparently is not as well received than using CO especially when there's more than one brand in the photog's bag.

And now someone likes to reverse that process? Or have non-professional users paying for the "remaining professional" attitude? And the initiator of the petition is also the guy paying all non-professional buyers of a licence their money back who were lured into CO in the belief that they could continue to use the software? And get sooner or later their cameras and lenses supported by CO? Since 2005 I read and hear talks about Capture One, since version 7 I'm using it privately and professionally. And there were ALWAYS so called professionals complaining that their old and "best of all" workflow was destroyed forever by whatever new feature came out. Is adaption genetically impossible for professionals? For sure not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the new export is better, but the speed of coming up opinions against it let me suspect "some didn't even try to use it. Or did tick the "show all options" boy in the left corner". And the old export was not exactly easy to maintain.

Which reliable warranty can the initiator give to Capture One that their will always be enough paying professionals to make development possible? Or to make things easier, connect the permission to get a CO license to a membership of any camera companies "professional" special group like NPS...

    Joachim,

Apparently Phase One was able to create a fantasic piece of software even with moderate prices a few years back and with a smaller customer base. Granted, maybe not profit-oriented enough due to cross.funding from their camera business.

Now that the company is owned by an investor many things changed, e.g. prices have risen considerable, LR market share has been attacked with features and a migration path, which is good for the profit and the survival of the software, but the client base (be it professional users or not) has asked for a number of features, performance, robustness for years which not necessarily would have opened the mass-market. Such requests have been (and partially still are) ignored and probably get moldy in a ticket system.

Not to forget the decline in turnarond times and provision of useful user support at least for quite some time after the split into Phase One and Capture One, don't know how it is today.

Now, in a minor upgrade, a feature has been removed which many users (be it professional users or not) have liked for its efficiency and consistency and/or their workflow depend on. It seems it is a hot topic for really many users and no word from C1, as usual.

All this together, no wonder users get upset and get more biased in their thinking and wording than necessary. That's how I read it, and if I were a professional who's workflow had been destroyed for nothing in return (other than this awkward modal export dialog) I would have thought very similar.

And, btw, the cost of not removing the gorgeous processing tools would have been minor, don't you think? Btw, what exactly is the functional or workflow benefit of the new exporter which could not have been incorporated into the gorgeous processing tools? Not to respect the genious of this part of the old C1 software concept (simple, flexible and consistent UI: one browser, one viewer, tools and tool tabs) is silly.

Imo, "the speed of coming up opinions" is due to the sillyness of the new exporter vs. the old processing tools for many users (many users = high "speed").

All the above is my personal opinion only, I respect if you have a different one.

    Calm down :)

I have the feeling the team will reply with an appropriate answer for everyone.
No need to fight each other. 🍀

BeO, I think everybody has a different idea what the judgement "fantastic software" means to him/her. My "fantastic software" simply has less quirks than each new CO version came up with. It would have a much better DAM, not forgetting the position on two screens, using the OS method to jump to first or last position in a text window, show a map of more than on picture with GPS data. And it would not crash as often as it is currently doing.

So, no software will ever fully do what you or I expect it to. I also faced a couple of developments I thought my money for the upgrade is actually used for stuff I never asked for and other stuff I did ask for... well, as you say, a set of mouldy tickets probably feeds some Danish sunflowers somewhere.

No, I can't hire a team of devs to let my ideas become reality so I have to take what the market is offering and speaking of the market – other apps are even worse.

If I had to choose between "old" and "new" export, I still prefer the new one, as the old one with it's 5 tabs was one of the UI's "strange regions" and I didn't like using it. There was not even a "cancel" button when 100 pictures were exported with the wrong settings. If that's the reason to get back export queue, I only can say, that "Stop" button not always worked as expected.

the world is full of companies serving professionals only so why should this not be possible for a imaging software ? I´m very sure  most pro user would not have a problem to pay more when c1 would also be more stable, has less bugs and would be developed with professional workflow needs in mind.

beo is right, the down spiral started when p1 got into financial problems and outside investor jumped in but private equity does what they do best - get as much money out of a company before they sell it again - and silverfleet was very successful they sold p1 for 230m, 4.6 times more as they have paid for. so it is rather predictable what the new owner axel wants and how this is done....
