Thank you for the suggestions! In particular, I was hoping to be able to quick select the subject and then be able to change to color of the background while the subject remains in the foreground.

Well, folks. Answered my own question. Command and select each star rating in Filter menu. Voila.

How to view multiple star/color ratings at same time
Is it possible to view multiple star ratings at same time. For example, I want to see the 2 star AND the 1 star ratings at the same time. Same with the color filters. Say the Red AND the Orange at ...
