Recommendations and limitations
Please note that the information provided here is subject to change and unintentional errors may occur. For any queries or further clarification, please contact Capture One Support at captureone.com/support
General guidelines
- Browsing folders containing unsupported image files may affect application performance.
- Previews from earlier versions of Capture One may be updated, which can affect the application performance the first time images are viewed in this version.
- Using a non-US laptop keyboard might require changing some of the standard keyboard shortcuts.
- Editing images in external applications other than Adobe Photoshop might result in unexpected behavior.
- Operating under virtualization software (e.g., Parallels, Hackintosh, etc.) may cause instability. These OS configurations are not recommended.
- Some cameras provide multishot functionality by way of multiple exposures or pixel shifting. In most cases, this functionality will not be available in Capture One. However, a single RAW file from the “stack” may be viewable and editable in Capture One (as if it was a shot in single Capture mode).
- Special or auxiliary modes (like pixel shift) are only supported if noted. If the information provided is incomplete or you need specific information pertaining to support in Capture One, kindly reach out to Capture One Support at captureone.com/support.
File support
- HEIC/HEIF support: Capture One supports HEIC/HEIF 8-bit files to the extent that the operating system supports the files. If you are on a Windows computer, you might need to download the two extensions “HEVC Video Extensions” and “HEIF Image Extensions” from Microsoft to enable support in Capture One.
- Capture One DNG colors: DNG files from camera models with native support in Capture One will per default have their native Capture One colors applied. DNG files from camera models that are not natively supported in Capture One will have generic DNG Standard colors applied. Adjustments and settings from other applications embedded in DNG files are not supported.
- Other file support: TIF/JPG/PSD/PNG files that are not in RGB color space cannot be adjusted within Capture One and will be read-only. Layered Tiff and PSD files can be supported for viewing purposes only. Reprocessing the image will result in a new flattened image.
- File size limitations: The smallest supported file for viewing has a minimum side of 16 pixels. The smallest supported file for editing has a minimum side of 512 pixels. The largest supported file is 715 megapixels or 65,000 pixels on the longest edge.

please for urgent help,
After I have downloaded this update as a trial version and installed it properly, the program opens with: lets get starts .. show the world..log in..autenthication complete .. you may close this windows now.
However, Capture One will not open afterwards. I have checked it with relevant recommendations from the above. Tried Capture One Support tips and nothing helped.
And now even worse, reinstalling the previous versions shows the same process: new Let get started, enter activation... Capture one doesn't open.
I am now in a terrible situation because I have to deliver a commissioned work to a customer today, February 22nd, 2024.
Please ask for your help.
Many thanks in advance.
Uwe Stolten
As an addition to my previous comment asking for support: I use Capture One 16 on Windows 10.
Uwe Stolten
in addition to the previous comments:
I'm asking for your support here on this website
My attempts to accommodate this in your dupport have failed. The link there kept getting interrupted before the question could be sent.

Another addition to the above topic before you ask: After the window is closed and the license code is entered and sent, the input table disappears and nothing happens anymore. Capture One doesn't open. The same thing happens if you try the trial version as an alternative to activate .

hey uwe stolten, you can try creating a new OS user and installing Capture One there. this is close to a clean, fresh OS installation, which eliminates some of the factors that can cause Capture One to not work well.
otherwise, please try using a different web browser or a different device (phone/tablet) to request support at https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
contact me if that fails and i'm not 100% sure, but i think i can try to create a support ticket for you.
Imported my first HIF + RAW files from Fujifilm X100VI into Capture One. in the Import window, looks like I can't see the HIF files but capture one does import them when I select the respective RAW (same name).
There is no separation on the catalog tho, neither I can filter for "HEIF" format.
Help? ahah
can't import heif files from my x100v while my mac can read it perfectly ... too bad it's so much better thant jpeg
Denis,
I haven't been able to work in capture one for 3 weeks now. The program continues to behave as described above when you log in, you get the window for entering the license key, enter the valid key, press activate, the window closes... and nothing happens.
I have to assume that this has been occurring since February 14, 2024, which was the day on which Windows 10 made program updates. After I downloaded update 16.3.6 on 15.02024, Capture one can no longer be opened. Likewise all other versions that require online opening.
Please urgently for help. Otherwise I'll have to look for another SW. I'm currently working with DXO.
I tried everything I could find that pointed to this behavior. without result.
I have already had a total of four Windows experts investigate. The Windows updates in question cannot be uninstalled and complaints regarding this cannot be made. at Microsoft were not taken into account.
Many thanks in advance.
Denis,
addition to my last comment:
There must be a way to activate the program offline. At these latitudes I often travel in areas without an internet connection.
Greetings and many thanks in advance for your speedy help
I have a Sony A7IV. Sony A7IV can save images in those formats: RAW, JPEG, and HIF. HIF is quite useful, due to it has smaller size compared to JPEG. But Capture One can not read HIF files. My Mac and Adobe Bridge (a free tool for sorting) can. Looks like I need to convert all my HIF files to JPEG via Adobe Bridge before working with Capture One. Very annoying workaround.
Hallo,
I was expecting earlier news. I now have to demand that you send me a solution as soon as possible, at the latest in the next 8 hours, with the result that I can activate this software without having to do anything on the internet. I paid for it, it's my property and I want to use it. If I hadn't already invested hundreds of hours of learning into Capture One, I would have switched to another sw brand after this incident.
How can one come up with such an absurd idea of immediately putting an internet padlock on a sold product and denying the buyer the use of his property? The Internet is increasingly having errors and it's not getting any better.
I ask again for a solution to manually activate the
Software.
Uwe Stolten
Please and thank you very much in advance ..
Kind Regards Uwe Stolten
Great customer service is what I call it....no response to any inquiries yet...can one still have hopes...this is about activating Captore One offline. If I don't hear from you within 12 hours, I will contact your management.
Greetings Uwe Stolten
FirstName LastName, only 8 bit heif/heic images are supported
Olivier Hericord only 8 bit heif/heic images can be edited, if you encounter what you believe to be a bug, contact our support team by clicking here
uwe stolten i can see you have no open support tickets, please create one by clicking here
That's all that capture one offers me in response after 2 weeks of waiting. Pretty arrogant behavior old young.
I will then open a support ticket. But I would still like to contact your superiors regarding your service
