Capture One supports a range of still-image formats and is compatible with QuickTime Player/Windows Media Player (macOS/Windows) for playback of supported movie formats and codecs. The following file types can be imported:
RAW (from a range of supported digital cameras)
DNG* (from a range of supported digital cameras)
JPEG
TIFF**
PNG
PSD
PSB
AF (Affinity Photo)
8-bit HEIF/HEIC
QuickTime/Windows Media Player (macOS/Windows) compatible movies and codecs (depending on OS)
NOTE:
*DNG files are supported in Capture One Pro but not in Capture One for Fujifilm / (for Sony) / for Nikon.
**TIFF files editing is not supported in Capture One for Phase One.
PSB format Support
A PSB file (Photoshop Big) is Adobe Photoshop's large document format, created for files that exceed the size limitations of the standard PSD format—specifically those larger than 2 GB.
Capture One supports PSB file import and export starting from version 16.7.0, with the same feature set available for PSDs.
See more here: PSB format support
HEIF/HEIC format support
HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) and HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) use modern compression to reduce file size while preserving quality. Many Apple devices and some newer cameras save photos in this format.
Capture One supports HEIF/HEIC file import starting with version 21 (14.0.0). Supported files include Apple HEIC and 8-bit HEIF images. 10-bit HEIF/HEIC files that are generated by new cameras are not supported at the moment.
See more here: HEIF/HEIC file format
Affinity Photo (.af)
Affinity Photo (.af) is Serif’s native file format, designed to store image data along with layers, adjustments, masks, and other non-destructive edits.
Capture One supports .af file import and export starting from version 16.7.7, enabling a round-trip workflow with Affinity Photo. Imported files are rendered as flattened images, while export preserves image data, color profiles, metadata, and masks as alpha channels. This feature is currently available on macOS with Apple Silicon only.

when trying to import jpeg files they are greyed out and only my raf files are imported. I want to play with fuji in camera settings that produce jpeg only. i.e. sharpen, highlight, classic chrome etc. Or do they have a way to change jpeg in camera then to raw.
Hi Vicki,
Thank you for the comments.
In RAW+JPG stacks, either the RAW or the JPG file format is marked as the "Original". The other format is hidden behind the "Original" format and not visible in the Aperture. This also makes it not visible to the importer in Capture One. Thus, Capture One only imports the file format that is marked as the Original. If you want to import both RAW and JPG files to the Capture One Catalog, you will have to mark RAW as "Original" first and import your files into Capture One, then mark JPG as "Original" and import the files once again.
Hi, how can I deal with unrecognized videos formats (sony A7 video format MTS)? Do I need to install the codec in Windows 10 or is a Capture One limit? Can Capture one preview video files?
Thanks
Hi!
I'm using C1 for Fujifilm (having previously used the full version, I realised both my cameras are Fuji so made the switch). I'm sure I could open Tif files in C1Fuji before, but last time I got some scans back, they were greyed out and I wasn't able to open them.
Is this a limitation of the brand version (it's not mentioned anywhere), or am I doing something wrong? I converted them to JPEG and then C1 opened them no problem from the same file folder.
Thanks,
- Ed
I'm using C20 and have a new A7RIII v2, but I cannot upload pics. Folder appears blank. What I'm missing?
Hi Norman,
Thank you for your comment. Currently Capture One doesn't support the A7RIII v2 camera.
I have sent your request to support A7RIII v2 to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release. Hopefully, your feedback contributes toward a future version of Capture One.
Whilst we cannot comment on future releases, we take all suggestions on board.
Can I use DxO Pure RAW to denoise my photos I made on my Sony a7Riv, and then import the resulting DNG files for further editing in Capture One for Sony? Or maybe it is possible only in the full version of Capture One, not for Sony? I have Capture One 20 (Sony version), but I paid for upgrade to Capture One 22(Sony version) to use next year.
Hi Andrei,
Thanks for your comment.
I have converted your request to a support request. The Support Team will get back to you via the ticket soon.
Hi, after changing my computer the new computer can open the database but all of my files are showing a message that the file type i use is not supported!
Hi, I would like also to know if I can use DxO Pure RAW to denoise my photos I made on my Sony a7Riv, and then import the resulting DNG files for further editing in Capture One for Sony or if it is possible only in the full version of Capture One, not for Sony. Thanks in advance
Hi,
I want to import a bunch of old JPG files so I can see all the pictures in Capture One.
But they are all greyed-out as you can see in the screenshot.
Could you tell me what might be the reason?
You can convert jpg in jpeg file.... absurd....
In the importer are no .heic images visible to import - unuseable Software.
