The Selects Folder (previously known as the Move-To folder) is automatically created when a new session is started. It is designed to enable users to quickly and easily move image files.
Once an image is selected, press on the Move to Selects icon on the toolbar and the location of the file will change to the Selects Folder.
To quickly move an image to the Selects Folder, right-click on a thumbnail in the browser and select Move to Selects Folder. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+J/Ctrl+J (macOS/Windows).
It is possible to assign any folder to make it a Selects Collection when you want to quickly transfer images from one folder to another. The Selects Collection function can be particularly useful when you want to edit and move your best images into a different folder whilst browsing through multiple image collections.
When you don’t want to physically move the images, then create an Album or an Album within a Project or Group and nominate it as a Selects Collection instead.
- Create and name a new Catalog.
- Right-click on it and select Set as Selects Collection to assign a folder or an album.
- Browse image collections and click on the Selects Folder icon (located in the top-left corner of the toolbar) whenever you find an image that you want to add to the new folder or album.

I wonder why the image selection is changing when I press CTRL-J to include the image into selects album?
Thank you for the comment.
Please, provide more details on what happens after you press Cmd+J/Ctrl-J.
By default, the image should be moved to the Selects Folder located under the Session Folders.
Lily, thanks for reacting on my comment. The image moves to Selects Folder, that is fine, but the selection of the images changes as well. I made short video for you to see the effect. As I can not attached it to this comment, please watch it from here.
Thank you for the clarification and video provided.
Indeed, when you select the first image (this one),
it has a thin white border, it means that somewhere else in the Browser another image (primary variant) with the thick white border is already selected. These 2 images selected are considered as a Set.
After clicking Ctrl+J, the selection moves further, and also the next Set is selected (the next two images in this case). The next Set of images is selected right after the last image in the row from the previous Set. So, when you select images 2 and 5, the next set will contain images 6 and 7. If you select image 1,3,5, the next Set will include images 6,7,8.
Lily you didn't answer my question: Why does selection changes? Is there some way to disable that. I do not want the selection to be changed. I am confused which images I have put into selected folder. I like to disable this changing of my selection. Thanks for your kind answer.
I have also tried to replicate that situation myself, and the selection does not change in my case.
In case the selection moves forward, please check which shortcut is assigned for the Next Set in Edit -> Edit Keyboard Shortcuts and enter Next Set in the search field.
Please, let me know which version of Capture One are you currently running? Is it Beta or Capture One 20? Which operating system do you have? Did you experience this before in other versions?
The shortcut for Next Set is set to Alt+Right. I am using capture one version 20 latest update on windows 10 and same behavior is also on latest Beta3 of version 21.
Thank you for the information provided.
I will send a report with all the details for the R&D team.
Thank you very much for following this and reporting it further.
I can confirm now that from (21) 14.1.1 selection is not moving after pressing CTRL-J for moving selected image(s) to "selects folder".
In 14.3.0 Images are not moved by pressing CRTL-J I also cannot select more one or more pictures and drag and drop in in the selects folder. Could you please look into this? I rather move the images within C1 instead of explorer.
In sessions, "Move to Selects" does not work properly for JPEG/RAW pairs. The files are moved but the RAW file has a space and a "1" added, thus orphaning it from it's XMP and its JPEG file.
It is not retrievable using "Rename" as that just increments the "1" to a "2".
It also breaks "Undo" as, although the files are returned to their original location, it is still with the incorrect RAW file name.
It makes it very difficult to split or merge image folders containing paired JPEG/RAWs.
This is for Capture One 22 on an M1 Mac, Monterey 12.2.1 but has been a problem for a while I think.
Aside 1 - There is the same behaviour if the files are moved in the System Folders section.
Aside 2 - As a workaround, it can be retrieved by closing the Session, batch changing the names in the Finder of the files and C1 sidecar files and then reopening the Session. However, that is error-prone and risky from a database integrity point of view.
Aside 3 - The same behaviour is evident in Catalogs but in that case it seems impossible to retrieve the situation using the Finder other than for individual photos.
Do you have any advice please?
