As both the memory card and its internal naming system are bypassed when working tethered, captured files are named on import by the Next Capture Naming tool. The default naming format adopts the Session or Catalog name along with a four-digit frame counter. However, you can change this at any time thereafter, using text or tokens or a combination of the two. Note that amending the name in the Name field does not rename the document.
When you have organized your Session or Catalog with a series of capture folders by adopting the Destination Folder Name token you can automatically append images with that folder name as they come into Capture One. When changing the capture folder, the token will automatically update all further images with the new name. Similarly, if you are using Favorites in Sessions or Capture Collections in Catalogs, you can adopt the Collection Name token instead.
- Go to the Next Capture Naming tool in the Capture tool tab.
- In the Name text field, the Session (or Catalog) name adopted can be altered simply by typing a new name. For this text to be applied as the file name, the Name token must be used in the Format field.
- When other naming options are to be used, click on the (…) icon next to the Format text field to reveal the Naming Format dialog.
- Select one of the presets or create a new naming format by dragging tokens and by adding custom text to the Format text field. Note that some tokens have additional format options, click on the disclosure triangle to the right of the token to access and select the alternative configuration.
- Verify the resultant name and format in the Sample field below the Format text field. This format will be used in naming subsequent files.
- Click OK to accept the changes.

...so, just to be clear--even on the latest v.22, there's still no way to permanently set a default preset capture naming that I always use. And will have to go into this to do this E.V.E.R.Y.T.I.M.E I start a new session. So 1998 🙄
It seems like a no-brainer there would be a feature to change the default to one I have customized. It is so annoying to have forgotten to change the default and see ugly filenames created from the default. And 22 versions later too. Please change this already.

Hi Lily--So you have just described, in step-by-step details, the actual problem we have here.
This is a problem because--why can't the default be MY default on startup, and not a dumb Session/Catalog that you guys programmed. I have never worked with any digitech, or client's naming convention guide, or that anyone that uses the arbitrary "Camera Counter"--it's messy and useless.
Also--if you are "tip" is to create a custom template to work around this--then why is the default for "Templates" the blank one? We'd still have to remember to change that setting every time we start a new session.
