Sometimes folders or albums in Capture One show the message "No images in folder", even though the image count is visible and the photos still appear elsewhere in the catalog. This usually does not mean your images are lost.
What this message means
In most cases, the images are still in your catalog and on disk. The message appears when Capture One cannot display them in that specific folder or album view due to a filter, permission, or catalog issue.
Common causes
- Active filters or search criteria: Filters can hide images while the image count remains visible.
- macOS permissions: Capture One may not have permission to access the drive where the images are stored, especially external drives.
- Catalog database issues: Minor database inconsistencies can prevent folders from displaying images correctly.
- Albums vs folders: Albums are virtual. Images can still appear in Albums or All Images even if folder views fail.
What to check first
- Clear all filters in the Filters tool or Global Filters in the View>Global Filters.
- Confirm that the drive containing your images is connected and accessible.
- On macOS, check that Capture One has Full Disk Access or permission for removable volumes.
- Restart Capture One and reopen the catalog.
If the issue persists
Run Verify Catalog from the File menu. If verification reports errors, follow up with Repair Catalog. This often restores missing folder visibility without affecting your images.
