How to save and reuse the original filename

Capture One lets you store and reuse an original filename by using a dedicated metadata field and token. Here's how you can take advantage of this token.

Save the original filename as metadata

1. Open the Metadata tool and switch to the IPTC – Getty Images section. 

   

2. There you will find the Original Filename field. 
3. Enter the filename you want to preserve in this field.

Use the Original Filename token at export

When exporting images, the Original Filename token will include the value entered in the Original Filename metadata field, allowing you to reuse it as part of your export naming.

Important notes

• The Original Filename token is not available in the Next Capture Naming tool.
• On macOS, you can use AppleScript to automate adding values to the Original Filename metadata field and then use that data later for renaming or export workflows.
