If you import a large number of images and only add selected ones to Albums or Smart Albums, you may want to remove the remaining images that are not part of your selection. However, Capture One does not currently provide a built-in way to directly identify images that are not included in any Album or Smart Album.
Workarounds
While there is no one-click solution, you can use the following approaches to identify and remove unwanted images:
-
Use ratings or color tags
Mark selected images (for example, with stars or color labels), then filter for untagged or unrated images. This allows you to quickly isolate images that were not selected and move them to Trash.
-
Use Smart Albums
Create a Smart Album based on criteria such as “unrated” or a specific color tag. This helps surface images that were not part of your selection workflow.
-
Use Assisted Review
Select a group of imported images and click Review Selected in the Assisted Review tool. Assisted Review can help identify images with technical issues (such as exposure problems or closed eyes), making it easier to quickly mark and delete unsuitable images before organizing the rest.
-
Manual review in All Images
Use the All Images collection to review your import and manually select images to remove if needed.
Recommended workflow
To make this process more efficient, consider building a selection workflow:
- Tag or rate images you want to keep during culling
- Filter to show only untagged images
- Move those images to Trash
This approach ensures you can reliably isolate unwanted images even without direct filtering based on Album membership.
Notes
- Images added to Albums are referenced virtually and are not physically moved or duplicated
- Deleting images requires explicitly selecting them and moving them to the Catalog or Session Trash
- Emptying the Trash may permanently delete files from disk depending on your chosen option
