Canon R5 connection issues on Mac Studio computer- Capture One 23 Pro
Anyone else figure out the trick to consistently connect? I can't believe this is an issue. I'm using USB-C from Canon r5 to Mac Studio computer (USB-C). I've tried both Tether Tools and Area 51 cords (brand new) with the same problems. It seems that I have to unplug from computer, then turn off the camera that I had just turned on and then unplug from the camera while the camera is still on. It makes no sense. Sometimes restarting Capture One will fix it, but not always.
Once it's connected, it stays connected, but if I turn the camera off, most times I have to go through this mess again to get it connected. Very frustrating. Not sure if it's a Cap One issue, an R5 issue, or a Mac Studio issue. My old beaten down iMac with old beaten down USB-A cords worked like a champ. I'm on the latest 16.1.2.20 version of Capture One.

it happens with my laptops also, I've found that if the R5 has the larger battery it happens less

Interesting. I’m using the plug in battery

Tethering has been a nightmare with the R5 on our iMac Pros, Macbook Pros and Mac Studios. We have bought just about every USB C cable on the market and the issues don't go away. What has mostly fixed it is switching to fiber optic USB A Gen 2 10Gbps cables. Looks like the USB C power delivery stuff causes tethering issues and going to USB A alleviates it. We use a 3' USB 10Gbps C to A from the camera to a 10m fiber optic 10Gbps usb A cable. Have that running in 20+ photos bays and working amazing compared to all USB C implementations. We also go through a powered USB 10Gbps hub but make sure the fiber optic cable is plugged into the non power delivery port on the hub. When plugged into the powered port we continue to get some connection issues.

Nice to hear I'm not alone. Thanks for weighing in, Robert Stebler. I've lately found that MOST times I have luck with disconnecting the plugin battery from the camera before turning the camera on. This is with a USB-C cord. Doesn't always work, but usually does.

I just worked with the R5, no external battery yesterday,, I've found 2 ways of connecting reliably, the best is the cable from Area 51, I was using their 30' usb c optical hybrid, really good connection, sometimes needed to replug the cable in if the computer had gone to sleep, but not a problem.
The other is to add power to the cable by the camera end, some cables have that option, but it means adding a 2nd usb2 cable to the length, I have had to do this to work at 30' from computer, hope this helps.
anyone having an issue with system running out of memory and having to force quit CO23?
thanks
Ian
