Hierarchical filter for locations
What problem do you see this solving?
In previous versions of Capture One, the location area under filters was hierarchical, i.e. Country above state above city above location. This allowed a "navigation" to a specific location by descending the hierarchy. Now, they are separate. Thus, I have to first set filter for, say country, then state. Often, for example I might not recall the street or city where I photographed something, but I'll know the name when I see it. Therefore, descending through the hierarchy was helpful.
I do understand that the hierarchy may not always be desired. Europeans (at least Germans) don't necessarily think to enter the their "state" (Bundesland), the way an American does. Cologne is Cologne. Similarly some photographers may use "Location" (IPTC standard = sublocation to city) to mean a Location like a natural feature (mountain, river etc.) that is not in a city.
Perhaps the best implementation would be a toggle to allow both hierarchical and non-hierarchical usage.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Every time I search for images by location, which is regularly, but not necessarily every time.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Filtering helps, but it is more cumbersome than before.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?
Yes.
