There are quite a few discussions in some forum topics or in the original articles from C1 in the FAQ section from disappointed users. Yes, it is absurd.

There will be a few bug fix updates (or maybe zero), but as soon as C1 decides to put a new feature into such an update release you'll not be entitled or able to activate it with your license key unless you again buy a new v24 license. Because there is a new feature in it.

Yes, absurd. No new feature is something I can live with, but no bug fix releases I can't, especially with the level of quality of C1 software releases.

It is even more absurd given the bad track record of C1 quality of new releases.

John Friend, It's easy as hell to keep me happy and paying for the new versions. They just need to honor their word when I pay for C1 24 and continue updating until the next version. I swore off paying Adobe because I hate the "software as a service" model, but this is even worse in my opinion. If you are going to charge me almost three years the cost of another service, but not offer me the full feature list for that service, then don't even bother continuing. Just shut down. I hate Adobe with a passion, but I am very strongly considering going back to LRClassic because of this terrible decision and the corner PhaseOne and the C1 team are putting us in.

From what I understand, C1 23 is the last version anyone is going to be able to buy.  Anyone wanting a more recent version will have to pay a monthly or a yearly lease.

If this is so, it also means C1 23 is the last version I will ever use.

Also, I wonder if they'll at least provide updates to handle new cameras or lenses... or if that's going to be their way to coax people to lease quicker than otherwise wanted.

John Friend...  That would be one of these occasions where I'd be happy to be wrong!

    John Friend,

I wouldn't even mind shelling out $299 each time they come out with a new edition. I just don't want to be punished by being loyal to the company and buying the next edition's perpetual license early missing out on future updates for that same version.

Would love it if a C1 employee or rep could elaborate on this and confirm whether or not I would continue to get feature updates to C124 after my purchase.

Unfortunately, Capture One doesn‘t care what customers think or want.
