Adding a catalog loading indicator
What problem do you see this solving?
When opening a large catalog (>50k pictures) with catalog files on a local SSD but the pictures on a NAS, the interface loads quickly, but remains frozen for a few minutes. During this time, folders in the library/folders section appear progressively and there are no numbers next to the folder names (image count). After some time, the numbers next to the folders appear suddenly and the program works. I don't see a lot of disk / network activity during this period, so it seems to me that the program is loading the catalog slowly without giving feedback that it is still doing something.
Would it be possible to add a progress bar to inform the user and let them know things are okay? Ideally startup times would be super fast but I realize that it's a huge challenge with big catalogs.
I re-imported my files into a brand-new catalog and the issue is the same.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
At every startup, I ask myself if the program is still loading or if something is broken.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
