Something like this should do the trick:

With the library tool in C1, locate your external HD and create a new folder. Then select the in-catalog images and drag&drop them from the browser window to the newly created folder. Do all this with C1, not with Windows Explorer or Mac Finder.

Hey BeO that's awesome! And then after transferring do I delete the in-catalog images? And for the future, if I add images (intended for this catalog) into the folder I have created (before C1 import) and then use the copy to folder function, everything should be right moving forward?

If you drag&drop then you're moving the files, no need to delete in In-Catalog.

I copy the images from the card reader to the destination folder with Windows Explorer, then do the catalog import. For culling, I mark those images which I want to delete with the red color tag and delete them later. An easy workflow which works for me just fine.
