Export the entire catalog to a connected SSD
LoggedWhich device are you using?
iPad Pro
What problem do you see this solving?
I often travel and am planning on replacing my MacBook with the iPad Pro. On safari in Africa I create a catalog and then a separate album for each location. At each camp I import all the photos for that area into an album. I then back up my photos to the iPad Pro file system and to a SSD. At the end of the trip I want to copy the catalog on the iPad to my main iMac. There may be as many as 15,000 photos which means a catalog size of 300GB or so.
I know I can export albums but that means I have to create another catalog on the iMac and import the photos. Rather a redundant process plus some of the photos will have edits which I don’t believe go with the exported photos. The cloud is not an option due to the number of photos.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
My last photo trip.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals?
I do know how to copy the entire catalog to an SSD, though I know this is unsupported. I would like a supported way to do this.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?
Yes

Hello,
The problem you are facing is the need to transfer a large photo catalog with thousands of photos, including edits, from your iPad Pro to your main iMac without redundant processes or loss of edits. You currently resort to unsupported methods like copying the entire catalog to an SSD.To solve this problem, it would be beneficial to have a supported method for transferring the catalog with all edits intact. This could involve a seamless synchronization or export/import functionality that preserves edits and allows for easy transfer of the catalog between devices.

Hey both, thanks for the insights. Moving files out of iPad and iPhone has been challenging for many of our users and we are looking for a way to improve the process. Stay tuned.
