Incorrect identification of Tamron 28-75 G2 on Sony
What problem do you see this solving?
Capture One incorrectly identifies the Tamron 28-75 G2 as the first version. Then applies incorrect lens profiles based on the first version. Correct identification would apply the manufacturer profile instead of an incorrect profile.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Every time I use this lens it affects my use of capture one, very frustrating especially when I use multiple lenses including this one on a shoot. I was hoping this would be dealt with by now, but its been nearly 2 years.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Yes, I can sort the images by lens and then manually select the manufacturer default adjustment.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?
yes

Hi Steve Tschopp – sounds like this is more of a bug report. Could you report it to us here?

hey Steve Tschopp, i see you have already reported this to our support team, thanks!
i'm now moving this to the "Capture One 22.x Software for Windows" topic as this is not considered a feature request

I have the same problem (except I have a mac). So how am I supposed to fix it? I bought the Capture One 22 Perpetual license in the spring of 2022, i.e. 6 months after the 28-75 G2 was released so I consider it obvious that I should have access to the update that fixes this problem.

As another user I don't have a good news - the only option you had was to check list of actually supported lenses and buy license only if the lens in question is present.

Thanks for your response. Yes that's so bad since it was Capture Ones partner, the Swedish retailer Cyberphoto, who convinced me to change to Capture One when I bought the 28-75 G2.

You can try drilling the support itself via Request Support link at the top - incorrect identification could be considered a bug (and something different from lack of support), so you can try getting an official response. Could be worth a shot.

This was fixed in Capture One 23 (16.2.4). It was considered a bug. I should have reported it earlier, I have known about the problem for ages.

I'm on 16.4.5.29 but I see pretty horrible distortion from a wavy barrel (wide) to pincushion () on the 28-75 G2 I tested today... The lens profile for the Tamron 28-75mm that I see in C1 doesn't read 'G2' either so I guess it's the first version.

You should use the manufacturer profile to correct lens distortion.

Steve: where can I download it please? I can't find it on Tamron.eu.

When you shoot raw the lens correction is embedded in the file. You can then access it in capture one as the manufacturer correction. If you are shooting jpg, then in camera you can turn on distortion correction and/ or vignette correction. Capture one did not come up with a profile for the G2.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, Steve. But my ARW's says 'manufacturers profile' and the image shows horrible pincushion distortion. See attached screenshot.

In the Lens Correction window:
1. make sure manufacture profile is selected next to profile.
2. The Distortion slider should be at 100.
3. If you want to correct vignette the Light Falloff slider should be at 100.
If this doesn't work, let me know I will try taking some photos to see if I can recreate it.

Aha, the Distortion slider at 100 makes all the difference, thanks a million!! With a 'true' C1 lens profile this slider hardly does anything but with only a 'manufacturers lens profile' it's night and day. But it needs to be manually set for each image and that's a pain in the behind... Copy-pasting settings could be a work-around but even then. I'm going to stick to lenses that are fully supported by C1.

On the first image of the set I typically do the lens corrections: distortion = 100, diffraction checked, lightfalloff = 100. I then copy this adjustment and paste it onto all images. Since the lens profile at default will be correct, no need to worry about if it is just a manufacture profile or a C1 profile. That seems to work with a mixture of lenses on a shoot.
For other mods applied I will typically select what I want to copy using the style selection and check the mods I want applied.
