I want to be able to pull all images in catalog that share the same keyword. I did this in Lightroom and could pull up all my bird photos at once. If the feature is there I can't find it

In the Library tool, under filters, you can search for keywords.

In the Library tool tab, before you go to filters, you should go to the library tool and select the collection "All images", then filter in the Filter tool for the keyword or use the search field of the thumbnail browser. Smart albumd work on "all images" too, unless you put it under a "project".
