Capture One unacceptably slow on renaming

Assuming you have all the images you are renaming selected, try deselect all after the process starts.  This hugely speeds up metadata batch operations, maybe it helps as well with renaming.

Thanks David. I ended up breaking up the images into 5 sessions of around 2600 images in each session. It helped. Still not sure why C1 is so slow though.

I am trying an explanation (not an excuse), including a bit of speculation.  A session as a concept for tethered shooting is constantly monitoring all image files in the "session folder" "Capture" and is probably not expecting 13k images for a tethered shooting. File/harddrive operations are costly and maybe the Capture folder is monitored more often than other folders, which might explain that it is slow with this number of images (at least for some operations like renaming). If you'd put the images into any other folder on your disk and add this folder as a favorite (or don't), maybe it is faster (assuming favorite folders are not monitored to the same extent as the Capture folders is).

This is an interesting thought BeO. Very much a possibility, I just don't know given in these sessions I am not live in tethering - maybe a bug or a feature. It is worth a test for sure once I'm done with exporting and delivering of these images.

What I think I might do is move, in the current case, 2500 images from the Capture Folder to the Selects folder, ultimately making the capture folder empty and see if the speed increases. I have noticed this morning (I updated one of my other posts) that if I simply click from one Album to the next, C1 starts all over to generate previews even if I wait for all the previews in each album to be completed. I even moved the images in the two albums to the Capture folder and still the same behaviour. I do not change a thing. I simply click on the album, highlight all the images, and C1 starts to generate previews. Once done, I click on the other album, all the images are also selected, and C1 generates previews. If I then click on the initial album, C1 starts all over again to generate previews.
