Capture One 16.3 keeps reverting back to the older version
-
Isn't it the same problem? The update keeps the old 16.2.5 version, so both versions are installed side by side.

So you need to make sure that the shortcut you start it from is pointing to the new version, not the old one.

Or better uninstall the old version at all.

I don't get it either. I already use it for several years and the older version was never kept when a new one, including a major version, was installed. This is completely misleading behavior.

It's because the name of the app has been changed from Capture One 23 to Capture One.
In fact in the past, when there was a change from, say, Capture One 22 to Capture One 23, it did the same thing. (At least on a perpetual licence - I am not sure what happened on a subscription). But if the change was from Capture One 23 (16.0) to Capture One 23 (16.1) for instance, it didn't.

The root of the issue is not the name change but a change in the folder structure where C1 is installed. In older versions the folder included the version number, in the current version it does not.

It still won't prevent the installer to remove the old version first and then install the new version, regardless of the folder structure.

Thank you all for your comments. My problem is solved now. I tried the several solutions described here. In the past, when I checked the box "create shortcut in desktop," C1 replaced the old shortcut with the new one. This time, it created a second one (as some of you have pointed out). I deleted the old shortcut and used the new one. It worked. But I find it interesting now that I have two versions of C1 on my comp. What's the old one for? It should just be replaced. THANK YOU AGAIN.

To many issues the last two years.
This is a very frustrating one!
Reinstall every time you open the program..., and no fix yet after so many days...

There are a couple of good reasons for the old one not being removed unless you choose to do that.
- some users switching to a subscription may want the option to give up their subscription and go back to their older perpetual version.
- In any case, if you had a problem for some reason with the new version, you might want to have the old one available to use in an emergency. (For that reason, I have always retained the old version, so when I got version 23, I didn't remove version 22, but I did then remove version 21. Though to be honest, I have never had to go back to the older version in all the years I have been doing that. However, I know some users have run into problems with a new version and want to go back to the older one to deal with work on a short deadline while the problem is solved. I think it best that it doesn't uninstall something unless you tell it to.)

Why creating a new shortcut is not available with the installer?
Just change the update/installer scrip.0
