16.3 Crop Performance During Rotation Freezes
The crop tool in 16.3 is very sluggish, especially for rotation. It goes from slow, then very slow. I made a video of this to show you.
Capture One 16.3 Crop Performance Issue - YouTube
After some rotation it slows to a crawl and only updates after at least 1 second after the image has been rotated using the mouse.
Any delay in this tool when making fine adjustments makes it so much harder to use efficiently. As of now, I basically have to make a small adjustment then wait and hope it's right.
Hardware is a Samsung 990, Nvidia 4090, AMD 7950X, with 64 GB of ram. Previews are set to 1440p

I will add that the size and movement of the crop is fine, it moves quickly and is responsive. It's only rotation and changing crop ratio sizes is where most of the performance issues are
its a nightmare right now for rotation

You should be blitzing it with those computer specs.
I see hesitation with the rotation tool too, but my machine is about six years old.
Do you have hardware acceleration turned on in preferences?I find it easier to try the rotate auto adjust first,
then tune with Shift + Mouse scroll wheel over the slider
and fine tune with just the mouse wheel over the slider if necessary.0 -
I have zero problems with rotation. Cropped and rotated continuously for a minute - no delays, can rotate as quickly as my hand goes. It uses GPU intensively: when I rotate as quickly as I can, GPU usage goes up to 40-45%.
My system is rather old: Ryzen 2700x and RTX-2070. Some important things that might be relevant:
- My monitor is not 4K but QHD, 2560x1440
- I am running Win10 (are you on Win11?)
- I don't have any non-standard software that can interfere with OS (such as 3rd party antivirus).

Alex

I think it might be related to the size of the gallery you're working on.
I was working on some modeling crap last night, and there are only about 150-200 photos and the crop function performs fine
But my sports galleries that have 300-400+ photos in them are very sluggish.

I have opened a folder (with subfolders visible) having 608 images, still no slowdown

Interesting, yeah I dunno. How big are your files? Mine in question are 200+ megabyte denoised DNG's processed in lightroom, I wonder if that could be my issue?
Sony A1 RAW's, denoised in Lightroom Denoise AI, then I process the DNG's in CO

Tried to open a larger panorama DNG created by C1 (~300Mb). After cropping it can rotate as quickly as I can (about 3 times/s) and still no delay...
Created DNG by Photolab 7 from my D800 file, DNG about 146Mb, no delays on cropping/rotation
