Allow C1 to read new Adobe compressed DNGs (as of ACR 16) produced by Adobe de-noise AI

I found a workaround for you: Open the denoised Adobe DNG file with Adobe DNG converter and resave it. (I use compatibility Camera RAW 14 and newer.) Adobe uses a new compression algorithm that substantially reduces file size, but makes the file unreadable by C1. With reconverting to the old format the file gets bigger, but can be read by C1 again. As far as I have seen there’s no loss in image quality.

    Thanks,

I didn't mention the Adobe DNG converter, because other people had said they had tried it and it wouldn't read the compressed DNGs either, hence my suggestion on using "save as" from within ACR which had been tried and worked. Maybe Adobe have updated the DNG Convertor since those initial discussions.

As I said, for now, I'm just sticking with DXO Photolab which is actually a smoother round trip exercise from C1 than Adobe denoiseAI is, but sometimes Adobe denoiseAI gives nicer results.

The "Save As" workaround does indeed work, but make sure you set compatibility to "Camera Raw 14.0 and later." If you leave it on the current default "15.3 and later," it still won't be readable by C1.
