Revert files to original card name after importing or batch renaming
What problem do you see this solving?
After shooting on card and importing the files to C1 I needed to revert the files to the original card name. It would be great to have the option.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Yesterday after having to match some references to the card names
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
I had to find the right files on finder by checking the card's names.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?

What about using original filename in the first place, during import or tethering? Both have templates in their settings.

My solution to this is to craft my rename format to include the original Image Name as part of the renamed file. This keeps the camera original frame number in the file. I then do a manual rename where I search/replace the camera prefix (DSC_ or _DSC in my case) with the empty string to remove it. This leaves me with my preferred naming convention which includes the original camera frame number. Retaining the original frame number gives me an error free path back to the original file name.
Some cameras write a metadata item called OriginalFileName. You can see it with exiftool but Capture One does not expose it.
Perhaps we should request a token for Original File Name.

Side note - this is a weird problem in modern cameras, that they limit their internal numbering to four digits, allowing only 10k photos to have unique numbers by default; I resolve this with numerical prefix updates, so I have 001, 002, 003... But only for the use of tools that are told to copy/import a range of numbers for a session. They need to know which way to look, as I'm already moving to cards able to store 14k RAWs simultaneously.
For about the same reason I'm about to stop storing original filenames in ways other than summaries or logs from file copying tools - in-camera numbers simply can't tell anything useful by themselves and are too troublesome to store files named using them.

My file naming convention is "my initials"-"YYYYMMDD"-"camera frame number". This tells all I need to know about when it was taken and what was the original file name. Everything else I need to know goes into the metadata and keywords. I am not concerned about the camera numbering rolling over because the date makes the file name unique.

Would the token "Camera Counter" give the same 4-digit counter that the original file name does?
