Tethering from Canon R5 to iPad with lightning port
Is there a way for me to use a USB-C to USB-C cable to tether my R5 to the lightning iPad while using the apple camera adaptor? I'm trying to determine if I can use my existing USB-C to USB-C cables with the apple lightning to usb camera adaptor
Here's my set up. Canon R5 and an iPad 8th gen with lightning port and 128GB capacity. Up to now I've only tethered with CaptureOne to a Mac desktop or laptop and all my tethering cables are USB-C to USB-C
I've read through the FAQs and explanations but am still not clear on the best solution for my current set up. I'm trying to avoid having to buy both a new tethering cable and an apple adaptor to test whether this will even work or not

I've seen the following instructions on the CaptureOne site (see in italic below) but it's still unclear. In fact, it sounds like I may have to use a USB-C to USB-A tether cable to connect.
That would mean spending $40 US on the adaptor and another $60 US on a cable which I will do if I have to but would really prefer to only have to get the adaptor if possible.
Any other options gladly entertained (other than wireless)
Thanks!
- iPhone X and above
- A supported camera
- Camera adapter for iPhone models with the Lightning port; don't use the adapter with USB-C port models like iPhone 15 and newer
- Lightning to USB Camera Adapter
- Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter
- Some lightning on-the-go (OTG) adaptors might work, but our recommendation is to use the Apple one.
- Cable compatible with your camera; ending in USB-A if you need to connect to the Apple camera adapter. ?????????
