How to apply film grain locally?
I suspect there is a way to apply film grain to a localized part of an image, but I have not been able to figure it out for myself. I have tried creating an adjustment layer and using a brush, but the grain still gets applied generally. Any suggestions?

You can stop looking, because currently there isn't a way to do that. Film grain is one of the few things that can only apply to the Image Layer (previously known as the background layer).

Well then, how about adding a built-in style brush for film grain?

That would require them to change the film grain feature so that it could be applied on a layer, which currently it can't.
You could submit a feature request in the Improve Capture One section of the forum (or if you find a request for this in there, upvote it). Don't forget, if you do submit a feature request, to format it using the template provided, which the developers say is a help to them. (So explaining why you feel the need of the feature, what workaround if any you are using, etc.)
