Older Imports
I wish to access images I imported recently, but they are not in the ten latest imports. How do I do this without having to import the images from scratch and redo the work on them that I had first time?

Select All Images at the top of the Library tab or look in the Folders tool further down in the Library tab. I assume you are using a catalog.
You can only see the 10 most recent "Imports" in "Recent Imports".

Under "All images" all I can see is a list of photos within the 10 most recent imports. I am certain I used to be able to access older images that I had done a lot of work on with older versions of Capture One - I hope this is not a "feature". Do I need to create a new catalog after ten imports?

Hi Michael.
In a catalog under "All images" you see all images you ever imported, unless you explicitely removed them from the catalog or moved them to the trash collection. Even if the original image files where deleted on the file system or moved away, under "All images" you still see the thumbnails, in the state "offline".
So no, you don't need to create a new catalog after ten imports, the recent imports is only to give you, well, quick access to the ten last imports.
Either your memory does play a trick with you, or there is a new bug in C1 (I mean there are many, but I haven't yet heard about a bug in C1 losing old images in the catalog).

Are you certain you don't have multiple catalogs and your prior images are in a different catalog?

I recently had to replace my laptop with a new machine, so is it possible that in my efforts to transfer files from my old machine, I have not copied the right items or forgotten something. I am still using the same catalog, which I had copied across.

In copying across the folder paths to the files may have changed. The Folders tool should still reflect the old folder paths the catalog was indexing.

The actual photo files and catalog were on a separate hard drive not impacted by the change of machine, so it would have to be something within Capture One that is misaligned.

Mounted under a different drive letter? In a different catalog? Maybe Capture One created a new catalog on the new machine? Is this on macOS or Windows?

The catalog is also on the same external drive.
I'm using Windows 11 (old machine was Windows 10).

The external drive is presented as the same drive letter? The Recents will only show the 10 most recent imports. The Folders tool is where everything should be as well as the All Images. Make sure you don't have any filters enabled? Show a screenshot of your whole Capture One window?

I have had a few problems with some USB sockets, so I have tried using different ones and the drive letter that appears has probably not always been the same. I do not believe this was a problem in the past when I sometimes connected up the main and backup drives in a different order, resulting in the drive letters being different. That should not be relevant.

It absolutely is relevant. Capture One includes the driver letter in remembering the path to the files. It won't bring older recents back. Recents is designed to show the 10 most recent imports. In the Library tab what do you see when you click All Images? Only the images associated with the 10 most recent imports? No filters enabled? If so then you might be looking at a new catalog containing with only those imports. Mouse hover over the catalog name in the Library tab and it should tell you the path where it thinks that catalog resides.

Thanks Walter, that explains the problem - Capture One had been using a copy of my catalog on One Drive instead of the one on the external hard drive. Now all I have to do is figure out how to merge the two back into one.

Open the external copy. Then File > Import Catalog > Capture One Catalog.
Select the One Drive catalog and import.

Thanks very much, Walter, that has solved the problem.

Glad to hear this helped.
