Powering camera through USB while tetherered shooting?

You should never charge your camera whilst also shooting tethered, unless you have a powered extender. Attempting to charge whilst transferring data greatly lowers the signal quality and therefore provides an unreliable experience.

Take a look at this as an example of a powered extender: https://www.startech.com/en-dk/cards-adapters/usb-2/usb-extenders

My experience with TetherTools and A7RV was that C to A does not support charging while tethering, but C to C does. I also have a problem with low connection speed when tethering (estimated at 60MB/s compared to 160MB/s when doing Mass Storage), but disabling charging did not change speed, from what I remember, so either that regular cable is hampered by something anyway, or it does not matter if the cable is powered as long as standards are implemented at a high-enough level.

Fujifilm GFX 100s can be powered and tethered at the same time without major issues. One is that shooting focus stack with fast interval (less then 2-3s) can drop connection (camera disconnect and connect again or just disconnect and require to pick it manually in connect camera menu in CO). I noticed It happens most often when buffer in GFX is filled up, so for stacks of 25 and bellow images it shouldn't be an issue. Also it is probably caused by USB C port in my Windows workstation at work. It is USB C 3.2 gen 1 and has quite limited power delivery. Another issue is that sometimes CO flag files send by camera as read only (eye icon in the thumbnail). Renaming file in explorer fix it. But I suspect it's CO related issue as it happens very rarely with GFX 50s as well.

Okay, great, thanks guys. It sounds like it is technically possible but all depends on USB port (or extenders), type of cable aaand camera.. so a little bit of everything ;-) Guess we'll test further and see if we can make it work!
