Make "Synchronize Folder" more efficient

What problem do you see this solving?

In catalogs the "Synchronize Folder" action is inefficient. When the user right-clicks a folder and presses Synchronize a pop-up dialog scans the folder tree and identifies new files and shows a count of them. When you press Sync it seems to rescan the entire folder tree again and counts through ALL of the existing images. It already knows the new files from the first scan and should only import the images already identified.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Every time I use Synchronize Folder.

There are no work arounds to Synchronize Folder.
