Recommendations for new PC?
Hi, I am planning to assemble a new PC for Capture One since my I5-6600K takes 10-20sec for RAW development of 24-33Mpx Sony RAW files.
This may sound little, but accumulates when editing 100s of photos,especially when reediting them mutliple times - life is short :-).
I have a GTX960 graphic card installed but see no difference in performance whether I turn OpenCL on/off.
I am considering a Intel Core i5-13600K with integrated GPU. Based on benchmarks, I expect a speedup facor of about 6.
1. Is this reasonable?
2. 16 or 32 GB of memory?
Second question to those who have experience: With the integrated GPU of the new I5 and the limited amount of GPU usage by Capture One:
3. Is an extra graphic card helpful at all instead of using the internal GPU? Or rather spend the money and an even faster CPU instead?
4. And if yes (graphic card is better), starting with which level, e.g. Nvidia 4070 is this the case?
5. Last question: Are there affordable laptops that come into this scope of performance?
I am thankful for any feedback that helps me to achieve a substantial improvement with reasonable amount of money :-)

Thanks! So a Laptop simply using a 13th generation Intel CPU should work fine even without a specialized graphic card is what I understand :-)

P.S: I use sessions. Does it make sense (and how is it possible) to store the catalog information on a separate drive from the photos?

Prices are in Australian dollars. I have a Dell XPS 8940 that's a few years old but it has i7 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER GPU, 32 GB RAM and I added an extra SSD drive. Runs C1 OK but is starting to struggle with Topaz and with 16Gb of RAM it struggled with Affinity Photo. I'll upgrade the GPU at some stage. So look at system requirements for other stuff you may run.

The term "catalog information" can be confusing, you mean the metadata and albums etc. within a session, not a catalog, right?
The answer depends on what you mean by catalog information.
In the subfolder "CaptureOne" of your images, .cos and .comask files are stored These files contain metadata like rating/IPTC, all your image adjustments and layer masks. This subfolder also contains cache data for browsing and previewing your images in a C1 session. There is no way to store this subfolder in another place.
Albums, smart albums, favorites are stored in the .cosessiondb file. This file can be stored anywhere, if you don't use the collections Capture/Select/Output/Trash from your session images' location, but rather use that "anywhere session"s Capture/Select/Output/Trash, or simply the System Folders part in the library tool.

I have my old GTX 960 too.
CPU is:

which has an integrated IRIS GPU, and the performance of both GPUs are similar.
The performance of the CPU (without OPENCL) is similar too. But note, my desktop computer has a good CPU ventilation.
I disabled the GTX 960 for C1 but use OPENCL.

P.S: As a conclusion to all interested:
I built myself a PC using a MSI z170 Tomahawk mainboard and an i5-13600k mit Samsung 990 m2 - no graphic card!I then compared the performance to my old PC i5-6600K and GTX 960 using SSD.
Video rendering improved massively for some SW, only by factor 2 for Davinci.
Capture One improvement for single file epxort is below 2, but if you export many files up to 3.
However, the biggest improvement for me was the directory opening: When I direct C to a folder with 100 images, this is now completed within a few seconds, with the old PC a file a second was painfully slow.I5-13:
Catalyst Browse 80s->14s
Handbrake 51s -> 14s
Davinci 264: 20s -> 10s 265 11s -> 6s
C1 1xExport 33Mpx Sony ARW 6s->4s 10xExport 128s -> 39s

I have said in many threads that storage plays a very significant role in performance of capture one.

That means one must be careful with drawing conclusions from benchmark tests.
Btw, do you notice performance improvements when editing, masking, or searching your catalog?

Definitely, thinks are generally at minimum 2x as fast, some much faster. Working with C1 was sometimes frustratingly slow with the old setup, now never a problem. I will consider buying an graphics card only in a year or more when the sw and the cards have possibly been modified or optimized for KI functions.
Right now, KI mask generation takes 2-3 sec for a 33 mlx raw file0 -
That sounds to me as if you made the right choices.

Just for space and portability reasons I was looking at switching to something like a i13700h mini pc from my 'old' desktop with newish GPU and found this thread.
My 4790K with a 3070 GPU is exporting way faster than A current CPU with integrated graphics. I can export roughly 100 24MP images a minute.
So I think you'll be nicely surprised when you get a good GPU.0 -
As a follow up, if anyone with a mini PC with a 7940HS with it's 780M graphics could give me an idea of Capture One performance that would be great.
