external editing with masks

I regularily stumble over a situation where I would like to use an external editor on just one part of a picture (mask).
For example I am using Topaz DeNoise to eliminate Noise in the background of a picture but do not want the same to be done on the focused area.
Naturally I could try to use masking inside the external editor (which many external editors do not support, provide inferior tools for and would often also require a not unsubstantial amount of time re-creating the mask).

My current work-flow is to export two variants of the same picture as TIFF while only editing one of them with my external editor (Topaz DeNoise), leaving the other one as is.
Next I open both files in a third editor (photoshop or gimp), overlay both pictures in different layers and re-create the masking (I already have in Capture One) to ensure that my changes only affect the desired part of the picture. Then I will overwrite the unchanged tiff-exported variant to have the picture back in Capture One.

This workflow is very time consuming as well as being "destructive" or non-revertable (if I need to change any of my pre-export adjustments I will have to go through the whole process again)

It would (f.e.) be of enormous help to me if I could re-import the externaly edited image to a masking-layer onto the original picture.

Is there a way to improve above mentioned workflow (externaly editing only part of a picture)?

    The current beta for Topaz Photo AI allows masking of noise removal (apart from raw noise removal if you open a raw file there). So your problem may be solved there. Not sure how far away from commercial release it is.

    That is a nice feature, but would leave me with creating the same mask in Capture One and Topaz Denoise.
    Also, does Topaz have the same comfort in Mask-Creation that Capture One provides (AI-supported masking f.e.)?

    And it takes quite some time to create a mask as well as being being repetitive and futile as I already created the mask, I just am unable to use it on a file edited outside of Capture One.

    Being able to re-import an externally edited picture onto a masking layer would be much preferable.
