Problem with lteast updatre, 16.3.6.
On Friday I downloaded, installed and used (as I believe, but see below) 16.3.6. I used it again yesterday. Today, when I opened it I found that the catalogue in which I was working had disappeared from the Library, although older catalogues are still listed there. However I can still access the new catalogue and continue working in it by clicking on an older icon on my desktop which I assume to be my previous download, 16.3.0 from 6th Nov 2023.
It suprises me that older versions remain on my computer and are not superceded by updates, but I assume this must be the case. And sdeveralother things are puzzling me at the moment: (1) I have no recollection of being asked for my licence when I installed 16.3.6 on Friday; (2) I am now being asked to log in with a password, which hasn't been required before, but is this connected with the fact that I might not have entered my licence key, or is it a new feature of 16.3.6; (3) when I look at my download records I apparently modified 16.3.6 yesterday but certainly wasn't aware that I was doing this; (4) when I right click on the new icon which was added to my desktop when I installed (as I blieved) 16.3.6 on Friday, then on right click on "Capture One" and eift click on "Properties", I find that it may not be 16.3.6, because I read that it was created on 6th Nov 2023 and modified on 19th Feb 2024; and (5) although I received messages telling me that there was an update available I didn't get any information as to what was new in the update, unless it was simply that the latest Fujifilm camera would be recognised (this is appearing on the scrfeen when I open the app).

You can check what version you are running if you click About Capture One on the Capture One menu (if you are on a Mac - on a different menu on Windows). You should get a pop-up like this.
Alternatively you can right click the Capture One.app file in teh Applications folder and choose Get Info to see something like this.
On a Mac (again not sure about Windows) when you install an update (say from 16.3.0 to 16.3.6) it should tell you that there is already an app of that name and ask whether you want to replace it.
Note that the older (pre-16.3.0) versions were called Capture One 23, but the newer (16.3.0 onwards) ones are just called Capture One. So if you updated to 16.3.6 from say 16.2.0 you wouldn't get the warning that there is already an app of that name.
If you are in doubt as to what is going on, you can go to the Applications folder in Finder (or the Program files folder on Windows) and see what is in there.

Thanks for responding so quickly Ian. I am working in Windows. The apps list shows only one named Capture One, 16.3.6.1949, installed, apparently, yesterday - although I thought it was Friday. The downloads list also shows 16.3.0.1682, downloaded on 6th Nov 2023. I am concluding, therefore, that now that the successive versions are all named "Capture One", each new one that is installed replaces the previous one of that name, whereas when the name included the year this replacement didn't happen as I still have four earlier verskions in my apps list. One of those is named "Capture One 23" and is in fact 16.2.5.1588, installed on 1st Oct 2023. This is the one I have been using today as I can access the catalogue I want from this, but not from 16.3.6. All my older catalogues are listed in the Library in 16.3.6, but not the one I am now wolrkinmg in. This seems very odd. I guess I could remove 16.3.6 and then instal it again from the download, or even download it again. What do you advise?

Typically with a new version, it clears the recents list at the top of the library tool and starts building it up again as you open or create catalogs or sessions.
You can still open them without them being on that list form the File menu: File>Open...
Once you do, they will appear on the list for next time.

Thanks Ian. That's worked. I haven't had that issue with previous upgrades but I was working with a perpetual licence until last year and now with a subscription. I don't know if that makes a difference, but anyway, I will hopefully now remember what to do next time the same thing occurs.
Ian.

When I first loaded 16.3.6 it would not load my catalog, and in the end I had to work from a backup. Then the "failed to load layer" began and now I have RAW images with all the layers showing as I named and created them, but no mask . I am having to go to each layer of many images and recreate the masks .... it seems to recognise the activity the layer was intended to do , but the mask itself is gone. I am rather peeved to have to go through all this , and have to say that I never after several decades lost the processing data for a RAW image in Photoshop.
