Import and display of new images stops mid session

Hi, I've used capture one for iPad on two shoots now where after about 200 images it just stops capturing and displaying any new ones. I've had an express CF card in the camera (Canon R5) each time and it stops as well but does indicate that it's still saving images (it's anywhere from 6 to 30 image) . In both cases I've disconnect the tether cable and then the card on the camera starts recording images that weren't showing up before-- in the last case about 30. I'm not sure if that's all the images I actually shot or it's at the limit of the buffer and I'm actually losing images altogether. 

Previously, I've used same set up for test shoots and had no issues -- but that was just a single image at a time and didn't involve the sort of image volume and speed of the recent live sessions where everything just stopped.

I'm using an iPad Air, 8th generation and am wondering if I may be running into processor limits or perhaps it's just too much to save to card and iPad simultaneously. 

I cannot find answers to this elsewhere on the boards so if anyone has had a similar experience or thoughts on the matter I'd love any help I can get.
