I too was a former MediaPro user (since iView Media Pro 3 before Microsoft bought it and later sold it to PhaseOne). I am unable to find legacy downloads on the Capture One website. All links I found via online search in Google were broken.

I recommend your colleague open a support case and ask for a copy of the last version they released for Windows. It has been a few years now since MediaPro was retired.

Your clunky methods are the only ways I know to get custom metadata fields out of MediaPro. I think MediaPro uses a SQLite database. If you have a strong stomach and are able to write code it might be equally worth the effort to use a SQLite database query to populate IPTC fields from the custom fields. Obviously you would want to make a good backup first, then do this on a copy of the database in case it breaks something.

I hadn't thought of accessing the underlying database directly Walter. If I can manage that, it would seem a much more elegant approach. I'm a bit rusty so it may take a few goes. Everything I'm doing is on a copy and there are nightly backups on the real thing.

PhaseOne are adamant that Media Pro is no longer supported. Hopefully that doesn't extend to not allowing access to the last supported version. We'll see I guess.

Thank you for your help with this. Very useful.

    Regards,

    Joe

    An update for anyone interested...

I was unable to access the database directly. The tools I used wouldn't recognise it (possibly incompetence on my part). I looked at the scripting facility though and was able to use a couple of standard scripts as the basis for a script to copy the custom fields across to some of the standard IPTC fields (misusing them a little). These fields then import across to Capture One. Not ideal but fairly straightforward.

I've a request in for a Windows 10 compatible version of Media Pro to allow my friend to back reference the original data if anything looks odd.

    Regards,

    Joe
