Is it possible to have a layer which contains purely a textual overlay

    You can't have a text layer in the same way that you can in say Affinity Photo, or Photoshop.

    What is it that you are trying to achieve?

    I would like to annotate some of my photos - I suppose that I will have to use Affinity as an add-in. It's a pity that C1 is  so restrictive.
