Canon R5 II file support?
I don't see the R5 II on the supported cameras list. Does anyone know if these files can be processed in Capture One? The camera is already being delivered, and I expect one in the next couple of weeks. I just read a post on another forum by one C1 user who said it wasn't, but I don't believe everything I read on the internet (g)

Here's something from the internet that you can rely on.
It appears that the R5 II isn't supported yet, though I imagine that it would not be long until it is. (Not that I have any inside information.)

Ian, that is the supported cameras list I referred to. I guess the files from the R5 II are different enough from those for the R5 that they don't work. Clearly no word from C1 per usual when it will be supported. Adobe already supports it. Time to get comfortable with Lightroom. I have it for free with Photoshop.

As a temporary measure you can convert them to DNG and process the DNGs in Capture One. This isn't ideal of course, but it saves the cost of paying for Adobe.

Thanks Walter, but maybe our posts crossed where I said I have a Photoshop subscription. No reason to use the free Adobe DNG converter to get bloated files. I used C1 because I have always thought it was that much better for me than the "free" Lightroom (or CameraRaw within PShop). But I just downloaded an R5 II Raw test file and it looks beautiful in CameraRaw. C1 won't even try to display it. With previous cameras (including the R5) I felt the C1 profiles were better, but I heard Adobe has been working directly with Canon to get their specs. I had suggested to C1 a while ago that if this was true they should also work with Canon. I hope C1 will support it soon, but if it does an inferior job I'll have to bite the bullet and switch to inferior Lightroom. Fingers crossed I don't have to do that.

Does Capture One not allow you to use any profile you want as long as the RAW format is compatible? If so, shouldn't you be able use the R5 profile and see if the results are accurate using a test file? Of course if the camera produces images that are not in the .CR3 or other known format, that wouldn't work.

Capture One reads the file camera info and knows if it does or does not support it. It doesn't matter what profile you try to assign it.

Yup, Walter is right, again.
Apparently, Capture One will not import files from a camera unless it is a supported camera listed in the EXIF file. This might be a way of maintaining the quality of the RAW file conversion. It also means, you have to upgrade to a version supporting your camera.
However, if you edit the camera name in the EXIF file to a supported camera, it will import. However, it may not have the quality you would expect if it were specifically supported.

Rafael Orta (CEO) replied to someone on Facebook saying R5 II support will ship in an August 28 update.

Which means, as has been previously discussed, pay for the upgrade or don't buy the R5 II. I am happy with 14.3 and with my current R5, but I would appreciate it if Capture One would support the most recently deprecated version with bug fixes and new camera support. I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee for a maintenance update for this while I wait for the next stable version I really want.

that's good news, i hope to check the update and try to process those files i had from the Olympics.

Waiting as well . . .

This was posted on Facebook earlier today.

Is there a way to get this if I'm not on FaceBook? (Not on Facebook for work/security issues...). I too am anxiously awaiting the ability to view the, now several thousand, photos from my new R5 Mkii.... truly disappointed in CaptureOne... I mean,...This is honest feedback from a VERY longtime C1 user. Apple's Preview will open the raw files. Somehow, Apple figured out that the R5 Mk ii was a "thing" and they managed to get ready for it... and their main emphasis is (apparently) phones <insert 57-year old UNIX using aerospace engineer's eyeroll and absolute contempt for what Apple has become....> I would have thought that photography being CaptureOne's "thing", that they would have managed better. It's not like they've not been out in the wild for months. Oh, and just found that GraphicConverter reads the files as well.

(1) I've looked and as far as I can see it's only posted on Capture One's Facebook page.
(2) Apple are obviously very inconsistent in providing support for raw files. Preview is happy with my Nikon Z6ii files, but still can't open Nikon Z8 files!

Apple also still does not support the Nikon High Efficiency file format (TicoRAW) that came out with the Z9.

Very happy to see this update. Can't wait for next Wednesday! My RAW files are backing up. :-)

Thanks for looking! Ahhhhh..... the agony of not being socially networked. Lol. Yes, Apple too can be very sporadic on their support - I'm still holding a grudge over the whole "Aperture" train wreck.
On the other hand, I'd have never met all the awesomeness that I've found with CaptureOne (and the people in that universe) if I'd not been jilted at the alter of Aperture. (oh, and X-Serves, X-RAID, Apple Science Advisory Board, and the list goes literally on, and on, and on...).

The day has come. Clock is ticking...Very eager to see my first raws of the R5 II in C1.

Unfortunately, they've said there is a slight delay and now it will be released tomorrow.

This is VERY disappointing, from a long term C1 user. I'm just glad the couple whose wedding I shot is on their honeymoon. But I guess it's my fault for assuming that the MkII profile would be ready before the camera was released.

As a "long term C1 user" you are presumably aware of the kind of time scale within which camera support is usually available - not generally before the camera is released. Sometimes recently they have been able to release support on the day of release of the camera. I think it partly depends on their relationship with the camera manufacturer and how early they are able to get hold of one to do their tests with.
You are fortunate if you have been able to buy the camera so soon. If I had wanted one, pre-ordering is the best that the leading retailers here in the UK seem to be able to offer at the moment.
Anyway, it is now scheduled for tomorrow.

Yes, yes, yes…. Patience. How long is that going to take? LOL…. You are absolutely correct. Even better, I thought I’d totally messed something up. Downloaded the new version, spent my $180, and it still wouldn’t work. Decided to go out with the BMW club ride (4 hours of riding in the twisting hills of the Santa Cruz mountains… if that doesn’t cure a bad attitude, you’re doomed.) Got back here and you even explained why I wasn’t able to load the files. Time to go to bed happy. :)

Just wonder is R5 Mark II only work in Capture one 23 pro?
cause mine is 22 pro and it's still not working..... It does not import the images at all.
If anyone knows, please give me the direction plz0 -
The R5 Mark II is not supported by Capture One Pro 23 either. Support was added in the very latest version of Capture One, which is Capture One 16.4.5.
